What/Who Influenced You to Start Pipe Smoking?

May of last year I picked up the pipe for the first time. I was inspired by my uncle. When I was a child I would sit in his living room and he would smoke a pipe. I loved everything about it... the process of packing, lighting and smoking. The smell was amazing and something I still remember...

    Worst Tongue Bite Ever

It can creep up with you. One Saturday I was in a big time mood to smoke and I had a ton on my mind, so I fired up. I didn't have a clock or watch, so I just kept loading up and lighting up. I realised when I got back to the house I had smoked tour bowls in three hours. Bad, bad, bad. Waaaaay...

    Drinking While Smoking

Re: Alcohol - I have come to the opinion that at least with my mouth it seems alcohol makes me more sensitive to tongue bite and burn. So aside from the Seattle Pipe club article on this subject, I rarely drink alcohol while smoking. I do though on occasion have a scotch with a vaper. I love the...

    Why Is Pipe Smoking Relaxing?

I can sit on the porch and meditate, which is really relaxing even without a pipe. However, I think the pipe adds another dimension... whether it be the ritual, nicotine and/or the pleasure of the smoke. In today's society of rush, rush, rush..., at least a pipe reinforces slowing down and...

    H & H White Knight

White Knight is on my very, very long shortlist of tobaccos to try. I guess if it is a long short list, it would then be a longlist!

    Famous Living Pipe Smokers

I read somewhere Buzz Aldrin is a pipe smoker. I think the British actor Stephen Fry is as well.

How Do You Enjoy Your Pipe?

I am random smoker, due to life style, schedule and circumstances... Right now with the crummy weather I smoke about once a week, sometimes less. When better weather returns, it will be daily at times. So with my with my small tobacco cache and four pipes, I have no real routine. Pretty simple!

    Corn Cobs

My first cob was a Country Gentleman, but as I was a new smoker I found the shallower bowl of the Washington Rob Roy a bit easier to learn to pack with. Both are awesome smokers regardless.

Advice on Buying First Pipe for My Husband?

My first briar pipe was a Rossi for about $50 that I bought from smokingpipes.com. Great pipe and the build quality is such that it will last me for life.

    Your Least Favorite Tobacco

Don’t have a least favorite yet as I am still too new to pipe smoking, but for now can say as time goes on I like aromatics less and less.

    IPSD Festivities

Me too. Bought a coffee and burned myself really bad. My mistake. The small drink hole that you sip through concentrated it.

    Tobaccos Exclusive To England

Some tobacconists in the UK are combined with other goods, like candy or luxury men’s items. I.e. Thorns of Harpenden and Harrison & Simmonds of Bedford. Then there are a classic few like the Black Swan Shoppe in Wakefield, J.J. Fox in London, The Pipeshop in Edinburgh etc. B & Ms are a dying...

    Keeping a Tobacco Log

I used the favorites list on tobaccoreviews.com to keep my current list of blends I like. I also use the wishlist function to keep a list of those that I want to try. From there I start to narrow down what I will actually buy by keeping a shortlist of that list on smokingpipes.com. For...
