Saying Goodbye to A Couple of Friends

It never rains, it pours. On Saturday, June 30th we had to take 'Bijou', our fifteen-year old Lab cross into the vet as she was having issues breathing. Unfortunately, this was just the latest in a long line of medical issues, and sadly, she didn't make it through this one. Yesterday morning, I...

    Baby Boy Today

    Congratulations to your growing family!

    Happy Canada Day.

Happy 145th birthday, Canada; I am truly proud to call you my home and native land! I think the copywriters at Molson summed it up pretty damn well.

    My whole downstairs...

If you would like, I'll send you some of my preferred "Latom-Bombs"; she'll be asking for the LBF before you can say "it smells like a wet dog jumped on a tire-fire in a peat bog in here!". :D

Sorry if I pissed anyone off.

Phil, I've always considered you amongst the best of people, and that certainly hasn't changed. You know I - and many others - are here if you need a shoulder to lean on buddy.

    My Father

I too know how difficult it is to lose ones father, my condolences and thoughts go out to you and your family. Take comfort in the good times you shared, and know that no matter what, he will always be with you.

    Glorious Day

That does sound like a glorious day! If your inlaws are anything like mine, take your new pipe and some tobacco, otherwise THEY will end up driving you nuts, never mind the anticipation of blends left at home!

Would You Like Fries With That?

Lawrence, you just gave me an idea for a blend - I submit to you the following:

Would You Like Fries With That?

I think you are onto something Bigvan; but I suspect it is more to do with the blending and preparation of the so-called "Balkan/English" style blends...perhaps it's something to do with the pressing? Where is Tad Gage when you need him?!?

Would You Like Fries With That?

To quote the ever-knowlegeable Mr. Tad Gage in response to the review of Wilderness I penned for the main-site: He then goes on to say:

    What Would Holmes Have Smoked?

Good call there Mick; I think you are onto something - according to the Samuel Gawith site, Gawith Hoggarth first opened their doors under the G&H name in 1878, focusing on "twist tobacco" while Samuel Gawith focused primarily on snuff. We also know that Conan Doyle was a student until 1881...

So, I am in the market for a Clay pipe...

That seems rather counter intuitive to me; however I could see merit to dipping the end of an unglazed stem into water prior to smoking for the first time, simply to avoid the "sticky-lip" syndrome. Of course, a dab of Carmex (or other lip-balm) works just as well. Perhaps the thinking is it...

    What Would Holmes Have Smoked?

A strong black shag kept in a Persian slipper hung on the mantle. Usually smoked in a clay, oily black with use, but sometimes in a "cherry wood" dark with age. As Holmes was an addict of the strongest sort, this would likely be a very strong blend - I can envision something like Tambolaka...

    102* Today and...

What kind of truck? Chrysler products have cheap control switches on the panel controls; my Dakota's seems to crap out every 40k kms or so. Its an EQsy fix too, just have to pop out the control area and replace the pot.

Corn Cobs, good the bad and the beautiful?

Welcome to the forums johanstrydom22. The almost legendary tiltjp (aka John Patton) has created a couple of documents based on decades of experience that will shed some light on all your corn-cob related questions (and many of your briar related, for that matter!). The Complete Corncob Primer...

    Renewed My Drivers License

Agreed; and quit singling out those above the age of 60 - I think everyone should take an exam every five years...and not just an eye exam, but a full-blown road test. I'm sick of being cut off, tailgated, merged with or crowded by people who can't seem to drive in one lane - all before I make...

    Great Photos

Every time I'm scrolling through my pics, I always stop on this shot I took for our illustrious leader; I can't believe how well it came out.

I am in awe cigrmaster; there are many tobacconists in the area that can't offer the same selection you could have.
