List the 3 Things You Would Like to Have

Ok...keep in mind, my list is probably skewed by having both a toddler and an infant to contend with, but here goes: 1) A good nights sleep 2) A clean house 3) See number 1

    Heavy Latakia Suggestions

Two completely different blends, my friend. If you haven't experienced Latakia yet, I would not reccomend the C&D Da Vinci...it could prove to be a bit overwhelming. Also, Blue Mountain is a melange of tobaccos (including Orientals, and if I'm not mistaken, Perique); while Da Vinci is Latakia...

    First Child

Huge congrats galeon; hope you are ready for the ridiculous amount of (mostly conflicting) advice you are about to receive! My piece: Ignore (or forget due to exhaustion) most of what you're told - no two kids are the same and instinct takes over pretty damn quick. Although I would recommend...

    Perique

Ozymandias; I would suggest checking out one of the following blends. McClelland Blakney's Best Baked Bayou Sliced McClelland St. James Woods McClelland PCCA Tudor Castle (VaPer with Yendje) Escudo Navy Deluxe Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake Newminister Superior Round Sliced

    Trouble finishing my smoke

Welcome to the forums wolfie90. Don't sweat the relights - they are a part of pipe-smoking to be savoured just as much as the tobacco itself (unless, of course, you are planning on partaking in a slow-smoking contest). So too for the dottle (the bits of tobacco left in the heel after a smoke) -...

The Myth of Brand and Maker in Pipesmoking

I would highly reccomend picking up Dr. Hanna's newest book, 'In Search of the Perfect Smoke'; it really is an engaging read that forces you to question the accepted wisdom and practices of pipe-smoking.

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

Box is with Steve Laug...I will pick it up this weekend. We will be organizing round two in the next couple of days, as well.

    Foodsaver

So anaerobic fermentation of tobacco doesn't take place? I beg to differ, as does Mr. Oulette and several others who's blogs and articles didn't make the first page of a Google search. As Russ notes, it isn't the same as aerobic aging, but changes most certainly take place that benefit the...

Quirky Family Sayings; Edit: Caution Salty Language

My personal favourite quips from my father are: 'Drier than a popcorn fart' (often used to describe how he wants his martini) 'Colder than a witches tit' 'Useless as tits on a bull'

Needing help with smoking English blend....

Kennyjo; it may be an issue with your personal chemistry. I find that many blends, especially those that utilize Perique, tend to bite like mad unless I dry them out until verging on crispy. I believe this is due to my actually having an aversion to Perique - if I perservere through the pain, I...

    "Second-hand" pipe smoke?

I would also reccomend investing in a decent air-purifier - I use a larger version of this when I am smoking fish and meat in the garage to keep the stink down and it works wonders.

    "Second-hand" pipe smoke?

arslayer; does 'your bathroom' have a ventilation fan? Does it work well enough that when you stink up the place, the unpleasant odour is contained to bathroom (with the door closed, of course)? If so, you should be ok - I often have a lit bowl on hand whilst performing my morning grooming, and...

Storient Meerschuams Slogan Contest - Win a Pipe

'Storient; The smoke of Sultans' or 'Storient; Masters of the beyaz tanrica' (sorry, can't remember the key shortcut for the accent on the c; translates to white goddess in Turkish - or is supposed to!)

16 reasons to attend the Atlanta Pipe Club

Funny, I just finished penning an article for an overhaul of the Vancouver Pipe Club website titled 'Why Pipe Clubs Matter', and this post makes me realize I completely ignored the most tangible reason to join a pipe-club; the swag and chance to sample blends you wouldn't normally purchase.

    Forum Personality

Although I don't post nearly as much as I have in the past, I do stop by a couple of times each day to check out new posts. Glad to hear it's going well!

    Importing tobacoo for Canadians

This is no longer applicable unless you cross the border; you can be taxed on any amount of tobacco that arrives through the mail. That said, the tax (in B.C.) on a 2oz tin with a value of $12 is $18; bringing the total cost to $30 CAD. The same tin can be had from a local brick and mortar...

    Loosening Tight Stems

Mark, many people simply use a soft pencil and 'colour' the tenon in. Personally, I prefer to rub a dab of beeswax onto the tenon for lubricant; and as a bonus this method also works to tighten up a loose stem. If you find that neither of the above methods work for you, take a fine grit...

Just got back from the police station

Glad you stepped up typical; although I fear your response is somewhat atypical in todays apathetic society. You sir are a true hero today, and I hope that the 'mother' (I use quotes as I don't believe simply providing genetic material qualifies one as a parent) gets what she deserves...although...

    A Sign of the Times.

In the city itself, I actually have never faced a problem smoking in Stanley Park / Kits / Jericho / English Bay - but if the by-law guys catch you, it's a $500 fine. As for restaurants and pubs, you are pretty much SOL; three to six meters from any doors, windows or air intakes leaves the...

    Baby Steps

Nothing a dremel and a heat-gun can't fix my friend! Simply zip off the goofy wannabe P-Lip and sand for comfort. I like to add a bit more bend to the stem too, I simply run a pipe-cleaner down the stem and gently heat; bending by hand until I am happy with the curvature. As a bonus, you end up...
