    I don't use cleaners with mine. If I get a wee bit of crud sucked into the stem it's easily pushed out with a broom straw. Once they get black, oily and nasty I burn them clean in a camp fire.

    Ready rubbed is like a Bond Martini . Shaken not stirred. Usually a quick trip through some kind of tumbler for the flakes and then on to packaging.

    Sometimes you can have a lot of fun saving a busted pipe. This one had a shank flaw that caused it to break off short. So I went nuts on it.

    One of the toughest things when getting heavily into pipe making is the equipment investment. I had a complete woodworking shop so mine was not near what it would be for a lot of young fellas.

    Most high end lines have good resale. There are some custom makers who have taken off in a big way in the last few years and their work is now commanding fantastic prices.

    I dry my flakes to just shy of crumbly. They light well and burn a lot cooler.

    My suggestion would be an entry level Peterson. Some break in slowly but I have some in my collection dating to 1938 and earlier that are still going strong and smoking great.

    Carefully open the wood stove and chuck it in. Close the door quickly so it can't escape.
