    Your pipe racks and advice.

P lips are great in my opinion. Some people don't like them. But then, some people like brussels sprouts and I hate them!

Couple of Meershaum questions from a newbie

I have been very lucky in getting decent meerschaum pipes on the used market. So far the only bad meerschaums have been cheap one picked up on fleabay. There is a reason they sell for minimal dollars. Get the best you can afford and enjoy it for decades . Then pass it to a grandson. For...

    pipe repair

I have a few pipes that I have used super glue on cracked shanks that are still going strong after years of abuse. Looks to me from the picture that the crack was caused by beating the bowl top to remove dottle. The most common cause of split shanks. To thin that cake use a reamer. If you are...

Here's a couple of my larger ones. Picture was taken when they were in desperate need of dusting. Since taken care of.

    Beginning Pipe Making

Most fruit woods will give you a decent pipe. If you plan to get into doing briar the only way to learn is by carving briar. It is a completely different critter.

    Humidor/Pipe Rack: a vanished memory?

    Pipe Sweeteners

Never tried vinegar. I would be afraid of a pickle flavored pipe.

    Pipe Sweeteners

Wally World has 99% alcohol in the pharmacy. I use that. Cheap too!

    Mortise Problem Fixed?

I always fit the tenon to the mortice. PIMO has a decent tenon tool for around 70 bucks that lets you sneak up on the right size.

    Another (Block with a Flaw)

How deep is the crack ? On pipes I keep for myself(don't consider good enough for sale) I have used Superglue and sanding dust for fills. Epoxy and sanding dust also is a good patch.

    KSI and G.G.

Buy decent pipes from a good carver(preferably a handsome bearded older gent from West Central Wisconsin). To be serious though buy the best you can afford. You will pass them on the grandsons.

    Loose Pipe Stem?

    Yep beeswax!

    DR.Grabow Estate Pipes?

masked1 In my opinion that pipe is not worth the cost of obtaining it and postage. You can do better on fleabay than that.

    Win some lose some.

Shop pies like that are cheap. All you need is a few grand in equipment and a few hundred in briar and stems.
