Hello everybody! I am rather new in the pipe world, but I still am rather informed compared to what most young pipe smokers are these days, not to be bragging by no means. I am a member of several pipe blogs, but I have a question for all you veteran pipe smokers out there. I am in search of a good, solid, affordable (50-100 range) pipe. I have checked out many brands, some being: Luciano, Savinelli, Bjarne, Nording, Charatan, Comoy, Moretti, Ardor, and many many more. I own a few of these brands, but I still am wanting some more input. Give me some advice on what brands you think are "worth" buying and ones that are not, whether they are listed on here or not.

Thanks!

My suggestion would be an entry level Peterson. Some break in slowly but I have some in my collection dating to 1938 and earlier that are still going strong and smoking great.

Take a look at Edward's pipes. I have three, and they are all great smokers. They are still made with Algerian briar and are priced right in the range you mentioned.

Seconding unclearthur on the Petersons.

Around $75 depending on which vendor you go with, the Donegal Rocky series fits your price point and along with being hell for stout I think they look good.

I'd also go for a Peterson for that price range. One more brand that I really like and that doesn't get mentioned a lot is E. A. Carey "Magic Inch". Basically, you have a great choice for that sort of money from many well established brands. Let us know which you decide to get.

For your price range I would probably look at Peterson, Stanwell, Brigham, Savinelli or Luciano. Like others I think Petersons are pretty good smokers and I own six, however, I don't think Petersons are as good as many Forum responders think.
You may want to save your money and instead of buying two $50 to $100 pipes buy one more expensive pipe such as a Claudio Vavicchi ($165 up)a Radice ($160 up) or an Ashton ($240 and up). These brands are not necessarity better then the lower priced brands you are just increasing your odds of getting a better smoker with these three other higher priced pipe makers.
Good luck and happy pipe smoking since you will not make a bad selection.

The brands already mentioned are all good choices. I would add that you might check out some Aldo Velani choices too. I have had really good luck with with them and can usually get them at a good price. Happy hunting! :puffy:

I have never had much luck with Savinelli, Bjarne or Nording, but Stanwell and Peterson make a solid product for the money. I have more Stanwells than Petersons but they both seem to offer the same level of quality in the same price range.

I'm going to continue the broken record here with suggesting a Peterson pipe. In the $50-$100 range, you can snag any of their entry level pipes. Maybe even one of their system pipes depending on where you look. I'll give another thumbs-up to their Donegal line for stoutness and style.

I have a Carey "magic inch", after I bought it I researched it, ya I know I did it backwards..I get like that sometimes, it smokes great, I did fill the vent holes & trash the magic inch filter..filled them with white, non-toxic, epoxy. It makes for a nice contrast against the black bit.

I am breaking in a Bjarne "Copenhagen" right now. Seems like it will turn out well.
I have an Aldo Velani bent that smokes latakia very well.
Also have a Mitchell Thomas, which I *think* is an AV made pipe that smokes very well.

You can buy an English "second" like a Guild Hall, or a Gresham, for very little money on EBAY. These pipes can smoke very well, and do not look that bad. For $50 dollars you might be able to buy 2, or 3. The briar in these pipes is every bit as good as the briar in any new pipe, and they may smoke even better. Give them a shot, they will not let you down.
