    New Presbyterian Flake?

Cool beans. One way to work through the apparent FDA ban on new pipe tobacco products is to take existing recipes and process them differently, such as pressing, roping or plugging them. The FDA restrictions are formulas and compositions. Of course, who knows how much stretch there is in...

    Removing Carbon Buildup on Rim

Picking up on the suggestion of coffee, it's surprising how well tea cleans, especially oily based dirts. And tea won't stain light colored substrates as much as coffee does. I would guess the tea oils and enzymes help with the cleaning power. hp les

    Love That Brand

Back to the OP, for houses that process their own leaf (as opposed to mixing together purchased raw materials), the casings they use at the very beginning with their source Virginias and burleys tend to be standardized for the house. Casings could be maple syrup/sugar, anise, molasses or simply...

Nording Question - Pics Included for jpmcwjr

Yo Fur - that off center bowl is so far off that I think it was deliberate. A feature then, as opposed to a bug. To my eye, it gives a pleasant asymmetry.

    Pipe club?

Yo Cos - just an update re: " is another - The Sacramento Pipe Collectors' Assembly (or SPCA) is the pipe club for Sacramento, California. The SPCA is a very informal group, and we meet twice a month, on the third Thursday of the month, at 6:00 p.m., and on the last Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. We...

    Zippo Butane Pipe Inserts

I ordered a Z-Plus soft flame butane pipe lighter insert from P&C a few years ago and have been very pleased with it. An advantage it has over the Thunderbird is the transparent fuel cell, so you can see how much fuel is left. Curiously, even Walmart appears to carry it - Robot or human? -...

    Newby News - The Conundrum

Yo Old - situation is similar to a pipe show, or pipe club meeting. Start the day with lighter blends, amping up as you go. TR is a great resource to figure out the sequence. And Biotene is your friend if you overdo. hp les

    PipesandCigars.com Discount Code

Yo jr - I didn't read the fine print, but a lot of discount codes, including P&C, exclude certain brands. Patargas and Dunhill (in the old days) spring to mind. hp les

Tell Me About John Aylesbury Luxury/Classic Flake

I find it surprising how close the JA Luxury/Classic Flake is to the same brand's Sir John's Flake. They are in the same realm as Wessex Gold Slice, which for awhile stood out within Wessex's offerings as being in cardboard tins rather than the usual Euro-Brit coin-operated tins. Curiously...

Todd Johnson Pipe Thursday on Zoom

Wow SQ - your pix of the ToddJ are really excellent. I saw you puffing it on the ZOOM, and although your lighting was pretty good, that pipe looked good but nothing like what you just posted. Glad you and yours were able to join the ZOOM. A good time was had by all. hp les

What Can You do with Mouldy Tobacco, if Anything?

Woodsroad uses a 0.5% solution of calcium proprionate. It's used by blenders to keep mold from reproducing and growing. Mold spores are everywhere, including in the tobacco processing facilities. The trick is to keep the amount of mold down by preventing them from growing. hp les

    WTB Unsmoked Mark Tinsky

Yo cap - welcome to the site. MarkT (and son Glenn) have had a long-standing webpage American Smoking Pipe Company Home Page - http://www.amsmoke.com/ which lists loads of stuff about their pipes, and also is a store. Mark has been one of my go-tos for the bulldog shape, which some artisans...

    Starting a pipe club, tips?

Yo Lia - social media is your friend, although there is a vocal minority of FaceBook haters out there. One of my pals out West had a tiny core of 4 members meeting at t friendly B&M until they went on FB, at which point the attendance multiplied. A FB Page is much easier to set up than your...

    Kaywoodie pipes

Yo Eti - Kaywoodies, new and old, are greatly undervalued. I have several dozen and some of them are my best puffers. The stingers in the older pipes don't bother me though I prefer pipes without metal in there. The current production uses very old wood: I was in the Kaywoodie factory for...

Example how to NOT ship tobacco....

Not defending the seller/shipper's practice of shipping naked bottles, but that Margate I would smoke up. Assuming the black garbage bag had no cruddy contamination on it, the tobacco if anything might be a little dried out - but that's how I like most of my tobaccos anyway, including the Eso...

So now I have a Bulldog

Yo GD - beauty! And with a story to boot. Was the pipe (literally: if that cigar store had had just one more pipe, it would have been a pipeS store - lol) store in College Town? Decades ago, there was a quaint store that sold things like newspapers from foreign lands, but more importantly...
