    I don't think the airway is restricted or blocked in any way. But the pipe is constructed with a very narrow stem. I guess this is the problem. In every other aspect is a beautiful pipe, so I'm a bit surprised why it is constructed in this way.

    There is no problem with any obstructions in the shank or anything. So the problem is not that I can't get enought air-flow through the pipe, it is rather the opposite problem. So yes, by "half a mouthful" I had in mind that the smoke is too thin and airy.
