    Blending with Cigar Leaf

I came up with my own personal cigar-leaf mixture, and used some cigar "trimmings" that I bought from at a local cigar shop. The gentleman/owner, who rolls hand-made cigars, was thrilled to sell me some mild leaf after I told him what I was going to do with his tobacco trimmings. He loaded up...

P&C Pairing Guide by Russ Ouellette

DO NOT suck on Cepacol extra strength cough drops and then smoke your favorite blend. It just doesn't work out too well.

    Cellaring

This thread caught my eye. I had many, many, concerns about properly storing...you well-seasoned guys call it "cellaring" ....a batch of freshly mixed, personally-exclusive, cigar-leaf aromatic-English. I imported (don't ask) some special, Cuban leaf and mixed this into my secret tobacco...

"Balanced" Blends....Which Is... and Which Isn't...and Why?

After joining this forum back in July, I've been doing a lot of reading of past threads. Partly out of curiosity, but mostly to become better informed. I've been away from pipe-smoking for years, and I now need to catch up on what's hot, and what's not. I've come across the term...."balanced...

    Blending with Cigar Leaf

Joined this forum a few months ago. I'm still trying to read through some of the older threads. I've posted this recipe on some other thread, but I'll re-post it here, where it belongs. Cigar-Leaf blend(S): "PLEASANT MOMENTS" 1 0z. mild cigar leaf (Maduro) or, chop up a mild cigar 1 oz...

    Adapting to Hot Weather

Just recently returned from a 6 week visit to Florida....just in time to feel the frigid weather back in NYC. Been cold here since mid-December. Smoked my pipe while down in the warmer weather in FL. and now, smoking my pipe in freezing cold weather, back home. I rather be in the warmer...

English Rustic" 16, Restore with a Little Bit of Red

That old pipe....very nicely improved. A silk purse from a sow's ear. Smoke it in peace. Frank

How Bad Nicotine Buzz Could Be

As suggested Lane Ltd "HGL"is a very mild aromatic English crossover blend, and contains just a little hit of Latakia. It's really "Captain Black" with some Latakia. Try eating before you smoke, and sip a beverage while smoking. Puff the tobacco gently, and relax. If you feel a slight...

    A Palate for Tobacco

I read through this topic, mainly out of curiosity. I wanted to read what other guys had to say about tasting all the different tobacco blends, developing a discriminating palate, etc. Most of the mentioned finer points, elude me. I either like a blend, or hate it...but I could not tell you...

    Beater Pipe Rustication

BRAVO ON THAT GRABOW! That well used, just meh! pipe looks like a class act now. Really clever, putting some points on an old Allen Key is the ultimate in repurposing. Good job. Love the waxy-looking finish and color. Smoke well. Frank

    "Cake" Problems

Many thanks for all the helpful comments, and for the recommendations regarding the forming of a "soft cake". Got it....prevent it, if possible, from forming....and never smoke hot, or overheat the briar bowls. Thanks, Frank NYC

    Burning Pipe Tobacco for Aroma

@ bosmer....!!!!! I never thought of using those charcoal discs. Great idea. I'll burn some of my favorite tobacco blends, like incense, on top of these charcoal discs. New York City is filled with Voodo shops, Santeria/Botanica shops, and God knows what else. I've seen those discs for...

    "Cake" Problems

I defer to the opinions of those with more experience....so, is a building up of a layer of this "soft" cake undesirable? Will it eventually be the cause of a burnout? Should this soft cake be reamed away, or, can it be left alone? I'm guessing that this soft cake is the accumulated build up...

    Burning Pipe Tobacco for Aroma

NYC has been in the grips of a freezing week of bitterly cold weather. Not great for this pipe smoker! Can't smoke in the house...I loathe the smell of stale tobacco smoke in a house....so I usually repair to the drawing room (read: back deck) for a quickie. Too friggin' cold for that too...

    Burning Pipe Tobacco for Aroma

Excellent! Great ideas..... Thanks for the input. Best idea....get a friend to smoke my tobacco, sit back, and enjoy being fumigated...

    Burning Pipe Tobacco for Aroma

I cannot appreciate the true aroma from the tobacco that I am smoking. Yes, I can smell the burning tobacco, but not in the same way someone else can smell the aroma coming from my pipe, as I smoke it. Is there a way to burn a pinch of tobacco....without smoking it in a pipe....so that the true...

    Cyprain Latakia

Thanks for starting this thread, and thanks for listing Lat-bomb blends. Now I know what not to try. Not at all partial to Latakia rich blends, aroma, taste. You saved me a lot of questions.

    Old Dominican Glory Maduro

Very interesting reading through all these postings, reviews, and opinions about these special blends that contain some cigar-leaf as an ingredient. I wonder just what the smoker expects from these blends when they light up the first bowlful? No smokers have indicated that the pipe tobacco...

How Often Do Threads At PipesMagazine.Com/Forums Influence Your Smoking Habits?

Smoked pipes, on and off, since I was 16 yrs. old (1968)....but never seriously....and my pipes have laid comatose in a drawer for the last 20 years. Then, in July, I came upon this forum and the idea of smoking my pipes once again hit me. But now, I actually took the time to learn HOW to...
