How Often to Clean Your Pipe

To each his own really. I may smoke a briar several times then rest it a few days. Most times I just smoke it once. You'll find what is good for you and your pipe quick. The ashtray smell........ well, it's a tobacco pipe. Mine smell sweet to me.

    My "White Whale" Pipe....

Hey zanthal... It's quite large. About 7/8's across the bowl and almost 2" deep. In this photo, my hand is of normal size for a guy 180lbs... Gives some perspective of the size. I have another new one but will post in another thread later.

How Often to Clean Your Pipe

After smoking, I use a couple pipe cleaners to clean and dry my pipe. Run some dipped in Everclear or Scotch/Bourbon every few smokes. You don't need to do a complete cleaning (salt and all that) unless your pipe starts to smoke sour.

    Filling the bowl

Good advice from rothnh, but my take on it is basic. Fill the bowl, all the way up once you have it broke in as you'd like. But never use a butane lighter. Matches inside, a Zippo out. 'A powered flame burns the rim'.

    Dunhill Service Lighter

I haven't seen one, but as a lighter collector, I may have snatched it up if it wasn't to beaten up. It's funny, I hardly even use a lighter except a Zippo outside. Have always been afraid I'd burn the rim.

    My "White Whale" Pipe....

Thanks Guys. This is pretty much how it came, clean as a whistle. I ran some Everclear soaked pipe cleaners and Q-tips through her, and planed to do the whole treatment. But as clean as it was, I loaded some dry Balkan Sobraine and lit her up. Had just a hint of carbon cake, very uniform. So I...

    My "White Whale" Pipe....

We did a thread not long ago asking what was your White Whale? I finally snagged mine, a 1954 Dunhill. "My birth year pipe". It's an ODA 835 Rootbriar. It's about a size group 7, 6 3/4" long. I like large pipes and this one is a Babe! (You can't tell I'm proud of it can you?)

    What's Your Favorite Cob?

I like The General, and like to replace the stem with a Forever Stem. None better in my opinion. (Although I have several different types.)
