What do you Think about Mesh Balls?

This sums up the best advice succinctly. The more time you spend with the pipe, the more time you'll have to experiment with details like manicuring the tobacco before you smoke, trying different packing methods, finding what works best for different blends and different pipes, as well as what...

Whats the Best Blending Oriental/Turkish Tobacco for Home Blending?

Doesn't seem that anyone is tinning it currently. Search "whole leaf tobacco" and you can buy it by the pound--which, for blending into pipe tobacco, should last you several years at a heavy consumption rate.

Whats the Best Blending Oriental/Turkish Tobacco for Home Blending?

I am very fond of Basma for adding to blends. It has a much creamier palate and spice akin to latte / cinnamon / bready notes, as opposed to Izmir's dry, tart, more acidic presentation and its notes of white pepper / tannin / cedar. Definitely find a sampler or a variety pack to dial in your own...

Confessions of a Coffee Drinker (And Pipe Smoker)

Well, my experience was import/export between the US and Thailand, mainly specialty teas and medical journals of all things; there was also an ill-fated brick & mortar cafe that never got off the ground because of a problematic business partner. I was SCAA-certified for a few years, though, and...

Confessions of a Coffee Drinker (And Pipe Smoker)

I spent a few years in the specialty coffee industry, and would hope that through learned appreciation it simply made me better equipped to enjoy the coffees that I do, as well as appreciate the ones I *don't*. I won't turn my nose up at gas station sludge, but I will be able to understand where...

    Filtered Pipes

This topic definitely looked familiar, so I did a little digging in the vault and found this gem: Your Smoke’s All Wet - https://pipesmagazine.com/blog/pipe-smoking-lifestyle/your-smokes-all-wet/ I, for one, enjoy filter pipes as well as unfiltered equally--and in some instances, with certain...

Aged C&D Sunday Picnic Review -

That's the perfect way to describe it, stogie. Looking back through a decade of notes confirms that after a few (2-4 ish) years it's peaked and then stays at that wonderful plateau. All those deep cellars are being rewarded handsomely for such patience!

Decades-Old Tobacco: Magical Elixir, or Zombie Dust?

Anecdotal reporting is all you'll be able to get for a niche case scenario like this, so I'll throw my two cents' in. I have cellared extensively, both new production tins with ageing in mind as well as 'vintage' pickups of blends that have (again, anecdotally) proven their longevity--think...

What Has The Most Age In Your Cellar?

A perfectly intact 67 +/- year old tin of Cope's Escudo, followed by a few 56-year-olds, half a dozen 35-year olds, a pile of 21-year-olds...and then some newer stuff. Oldest non-Escudos are McCranies '83s, and a bar of 5 Brothers from the '20s that's just for display.

Wide Mouth Shallow Bowls. Good For?

I have a couple that I tend to favor for Lat & Oriental blends, particularly GLP fare such as Key Largo or Westminster. Neal Archer Roan has a good primer on the subject here.

    Troves of Unsmoked Aged Pipes

A couple boxes of hundreds of stummels is a lot easier to misplace than a couple hundred (or even a couple) Pontiacs, for one.

    Taste vs. Aftertaste

This might help. :puffy: Just take your time, you'll get there.

Nat Sherman - 127 Wayfarer - Tobacco Review

Bringing along virgin cobs is a habit when leaving the house now, at least when I'm reviewing. Precisely for situations like these. I recommend it as the easiest way to evangelize! And don't be scared off by the Perique-bomb--it's surprisingly manageable. ---- And it seems this crowd-sourcing...

2015 New York Pipe Show Report from Romeowood

Errata to report: I misspelled Hank Saatchi's name, and had the wrong information regarding Amorelli pipes. Hank and Simone are now the U.S. representatives of Amorelli pipes. I will now turn in my roving reporter's card
