    Rattray 3 Noggins

Haven't smoked it for a while but all my experiences, so far, were positive. Easy smoke, good flavor. I always wonder about when tobacco companies change their blends and, you know, not tell anyone.

Question about Shipping Pipes from UK to US

I get a pipe a year from the PCOL, UK to US. During covid it was worse, maybe 4-6 weeks, but they always showed up. Sent from there Royal Mail. Best story: after one pipe didn't show up for four weeks but, according to USPS website was stuck in Chicago, I alerted them that it was lost. Pipe...

    In-house Pipes from Iconic Shops

I was quite taken with a shop pipe from Paris, Pipe du Nord. If I understand it correctly, they were made by someone else (Savinelli?) but with Marie, the proprietress', design. I really like this: shops designing their own, even if someone else makes them.

    UK Pipe Smokers....or Lack Thereof

I'm going to wade in here because I have an experience that is surprisingly convivial. There is a pipe and tobacco shop in Little Rock (conveniently named, The Pipe and Tobacco Shop) and while I've known about it for years, it is just far enough away from where I live to make it tough to head...

    UK Pipe Smokers....or Lack Thereof

This is an interesting, if a bit sad, thread. Made me recall a time sitting with my daughter outside the MET museum in NYC. Lots of benches and tourists just sitting about resting and amidst the hustle and bustle I catch a wiff. I look over and there is a man, in a jacket, sitting next to the...

    UK Pipe Smokers....or Lack Thereof

greg1980, I urge you to get connected with the pipe club of London. They have monthly meetings at a smoke friendly pub and they have special events from time to time. Incredibly interesting and nice group of gents (and a few ladies) and very welcoming.

    Peterson Coatings?

Wow, PipeLT, glad to know that I'm not the only one with this issue. Thanks for posting. I am happy to report that after a night of salt/rum it softened the goo and I was able to hit it with a paper towel and it cleaned up. Ready to try another smoke after it dries. I guess we should think...

    Peterson Coatings?

Interesting and helpful responses. Pipe is soaking now. I'll post what I discover tomorrow. At this point it appears that the black stuff will require sand paper, but we'll see.

    Peterson Coatings?

That's the thing: the coating is, in this case, thicker. Don't believe it would just wipe off. Going to try a bit of salt/booze to see if that breaks it down.

    Peterson Coatings?

Anyone else have any issues with the coatings inside of a new Peterson? Got a lovely silver spigot, sweet pipe, and noticed the inside was black, like...black. Not that kind of charred look of many pipes, the kind the are the prep so one doesn't need to break in the pipe so much. I've smoked...

How Old is Too Old? Prince Albert in a Can!

Yes, I do still have Prince Albert in a can. And yes, my refrigerator is running. But I don't understand...ahhhhhh, stop it! You young kids and your crank phone calls!!!

A Rumination on the Continuity of Velvet

Fantastic history, Briar Lee. Thanks much for sharing.

A Rumination on the Continuity of Velvet

Ha! Thanks anotherbob. Yep, not yet over 65 but, there is another factor which you do not address: my wife. I already got her attention a couple of years ago with a Dunhill purchase. (You can read about how that went down on this website.) We'll see if Briar Lee wants to purchase a few tins...

A Rumination on the Continuity of Velvet

Tricky. Is it more valuable to sell as an unopened box (and thus more mysterious and collectible) or...try a tin, maybe ruined, maybe not, and...I don't know, ruin the mystery of it?

    A Privileged Pipe Smoking Moment

Incredible, doesn't even seem like it is real. Magical.

A Rumination on the Continuity of Velvet

Did someone say they wanted Old School Velvet? Box, unopened, from (I was told) 1930s. It is like a Christmas miracle!!

How Old is Too Old? Prince Albert in a Can!

Interesting development: the PA box has tabs so I could open it without disturbing glue. Found a website that has the changes in PA tins and this box is from 1961-62: pre-zip code but post some small text changes on the tin. So now the tobacco must be good, right? (I'm kidding.) No way to...

How Old is Too Old? Prince Albert in a Can!

Alas, Pipestud says no. Well, okay. Can't sell tobacco on ebay anymore. Other suggestions for where to sell ancient tobacco online?

Fantastic advice, all. Thanks. I'll see what pipestud says.
