I'm just curious what other's here think of Rattray's 3 Noggins. It doesn't get many mentions. Sometimes I enjoy it and other times I've just found it OK. My tins are aged so that may have improve them.

I see Jimlnks review from a few years ago on Tobacco Reviews was less than enthusiastic.

Anyone have an opinion on this blend?

I am also interested to hear some opinions on 3 Noggins, which I understand to have been developed as a slightly stronger version 7 Reserve (which is aimed at the more constant all-day smoker). I haven't tried either of these two Rattray's blends, but really enjoy many of the others I have tried from them (esp. Red Rapparee, Black Mallory, Brown Clunee, and Highgate).

I definitely read the reviews to help me decide which new blends to try (since can't afford to buy everything, and end up finding out that I don't like half of what I do buy), but don't place 100% of my decisions on those. One big problem I've found with the reviews on Tobacco Reviews is that they are not necessarily listed in chronological order. So what you get is someone reviewing the blend made by blender "x" years ago right next to another reviewer who is reviewing the "new" taste after change to a new blender. I really only care about the recipe that is being made currently and that you can buy off the shelf today (when you can even find it in stock, that is!).

Haven't smoked it for a while but all my experiences, so far, were positive. Easy smoke, good flavor. I always wonder about when tobacco companies change their blends and, you know, not tell anyone.

I think it's true that you can "learn" a blend and get to like it, though you don't like it right away. Sometimes a little aging helps, and sometimes if you jar a blend for a year, it will really come together for you. If it still doesn't taste good, it might be a good blend that just isn't for you. Don't fight your own taste buds.

Very true. Not only do individual's tastes differ, but each person's own personal taste may easily change over time. And fresh vs. aged adds a whole 'nother dimension. Good points well taken.
