    Broken Pipe - Vernon Vig

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but knew about him through his great work with the UPCA. God rest his soul.

    2025 Chicago Pipe Show!

Made hotel reservations this week. I’ve missed only two since 2002.

HH Mac Baren Rustica Nic Hit

I’m an old goat who has been smoking a pipe a LONG time, but am still a nicotine wimp. I don’t touch even regular burley blends. I’m getting dizzy just thinking about Rustica.

    Not What I Thought

The GBD stems are called Perspex. I have five of them and love them because the Perspex is very comfortable. Bristle pipe cleaners work pretty well clearing out the brown residue.

Does Your Spouse Know How Much Your Pipes Cost?

My wife knows and she hasn’t cared for the past 42 years.

Milan Tobacconist in Roanoke VA “Our” Blends

Correction: Milan’s is in Roanoke, not Richmond.

Perfect Pipe Collection. Less than 20 pipes.

Long time pipe man here. I said 30 years ago I’m done. 50 or so pipes thereafter, I say the same today. That’ll last until the Chicago Show.

    2025 NASPC Columbus Pipe Show

It’s a great, albeit smaller, show. I’ve been to them since 2013 and preferred Columbus to Chicago until the Lincolnshire and Rosemont Chicago shows the past three years. I plan to attend again this year.

In Search of Pipe Dreams By Rick Newcombe

I would also recommend Weber’s Guide to Pipes and Pipe Smoking and Gary Schrier’s Confessions of a Pipeman. The latter is quirky, but informative and entertaining.

In Search of Pipe Dreams By Rick Newcombe

The Ehwa book has been out of print for decades; but I found a copy on Amazon, also decades ago, when Amazon focused on books. It is indeed a good read.

    Boswell Blends

I’ve tried only Northwoods and Private Stock and both are excellent.

    Estervals order response from C/S

I live in Virginia and never had a shipment problem. I suspect it’s not a state issue, especially since we are still fairly tobacco friendly. That said, I have never made any foreign orders.

What is the best Savinelli pipe?

All I can offer is any Autograph. I can’t speak for other models.

    Rattray's English/Scottish - too much choice...

Don’t forget Jock’s Mixture. I’m smoking it now and I recommend it.

If You Could Visit any Pipe Shop...

Living in Northern Virginia, I am blessed with several pipe shops within an hour from my residence: 5 Old Virginia Tobacco Companies, the closest of which is 15 minutes away, and holds monthly “ Pipe Nights”two Tobaccology stores, which stock decent blends, Leesburg Pipe and Cigar, and John...

Is Jolly Old Saint Nicholas still in production?

I must admit I rarely smoke aromatics, but I tried both editions and loved them both.

Then maybe you were predestined to dislike it.

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

I hope Thai Hooker is infused with tetracycline.

    Santa's Christmas Cheer

I did that and it’s working better. After 50+ years of pipe smoking, there is always something new to learn. Thanks for the advice.

    Santa's Christmas Cheer

I popped a tin of 2015 Christmas Cheer last week, and it was dry right out of the tin. I found the flavor still muted. I wouldn’t pay $70+ for it, but I dropped only $20 when it first came out.
