What Are You Listening To? - May, 2025

Ok, I am risking getting some ridicule for posting this, but I'm still doing it anyway. A couple of months ago I decided to listen to some current pop music just out of curiosity, and one of the used CDs I got was Billie Eilish's latest album. I was rather impressed with her music and composing...

    Charatan Question

Thank god! I was worried I got rid of pipe I didn't remember even owning!

This Pipe Has No Right Being This Good! What is it?

I'm not surprised that it smokes great. Pot shaped pipes with thick walls always smoked good for me. They're not the most popular pipe shape but they seemed designed to be really good smoking pipes. Hope you continue to enjoy smoking it!

    Another Nice French Pipe!

In spite of the worsening arthritis in my right hand, I still can't help working on old pipes. I recently bought this great Chacom Deauville pipe. I had one of these back in the late 80s but passed it on for reasons I can't remember. Later I kind of missed its uniqueness. I found an ad for...

    JR Cigar Catalogs!

I loved those old catalogs! His stories about buying cigars from various makers and vendors were full of humor for sure.

Sasieni Stinger - Original Or Not?

Nice old Sasieni eight dot! No idea about the stinger though.

    Chasing Grain

I've never felt grain meant more than anything other than visual effect. Honestly I like Birds Eye or flame grain more than straight grain. Just my preference, that's all. Here's two examples of grain I like: the first is a Don Carlos with a nice flame grain and then there's an old Comoy's...

What's Your Favorite Current Factory Model Straight Billiard?

I have seen very few of these, so I don't know if my pipe is typical for the brand. This one is about 5 1/4" long with a 1 1/2" inch tall bowl. I know current Brebbia pipes offer a lot of different shapes, so you should have a lot to choose from. Check out the mail order vendors that are site...

What's Your Favorite Current Factory Model Straight Billiard?

Manifattura Pipe Brebbia, started in 1953 by Enea Buzzi who worked with Savinelli.

What's Your Favorite Current Factory Model Straight Billiard?

I've got a number of factory straight billiards, but this is one of my favorites. It's an old MPB Golden Gnome which later was re-branded Brebbia. A small stout billiard that has some nice fine grain and smokes wonderfully.

What Are You Listening To? - May, 2025

I was today years old when I found this out. Frank Sinatra's song Full Moon and Empty Arms from 1945 was based on Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto. I listened to both and was amazed at how well he followed the melody from the concerto. Nice stuff for an older piece by Sinatra.

Show Off Your Meerschaum Pipes Here!

I guess I'm late to this thread. Anyway, I have just 3 meerschaum pipes, a couple of small odd ones and a sort of normal one.

Such a great group, and she's quite the chameleon with both her voice and her looks.

    A Visit to Missouri Meerschaum

Very cool pics, thanks for sharing! Oh, I was wondering if they ever used Algerian cobs for their pipes? 😜

What Are You Listening To? - May, 2025

Ready for some great electro dance music from the 80's? Great sound here including the familiar song "Oh Yeah" that has been used in movie soundtracks and ads for years. Fun stuff!

    Show Us Your French Pipes

My latest addition: a Butz Choquin Simoun, with the odd little copper plate inlay. Still trying to figure that detail out.

I Paid Too Much for a Pipe... On Purpose!

Geez o peets you guys run off the rails quickly! No one is going to lick my pipe to see if it tastes different than any other type of briar or some other material. Such cultured palates we seem to have here. Ok, I've smoked the pipe this afternoon and it was a very good smoke, in fact it was...

I Paid Too Much for a Pipe... On Purpose!

I've been reading about Algerian briar lately, and I know there's been plenty of talk on this forum about the great smoking properties of Algerian briar. So I looked through all my pipes and I couldn't find one pipe that had Algerian briar stamped on it. I do have an old Dunhill (rather rough...

    Biscuits: A Gift From God

Being here in Mississippi the only biscuits I know are the southern type. And while I like them ok, they're not my favorite thing in the world. I seem to favor toast, like English muffins, or raisin bagels. I don't know why, probably something wrong with me.... 😝
