In the sticks in Mississippi
In spite of the worsening arthritis in my right hand, I still can't help working on old pipes. I recently bought this great Chacom Deauville pipe. I had one of these back in the late 80s but passed it on for reasons I can't remember. Later I kind of missed its uniqueness. I found an ad for Chacom pipes from 1978 that shows these to be one of their top pipes, selling for $45 at the time. A fair amount for the day I figure. I know Charatan had a line like these called After Hours with a yellow shank extension, but the extension was larger than the Chacom's. I like the looks of these and this one took a lot of work to restore but I'm happy with the results.

Ok, thanks for all the likes and comments. But I have a little confession to make. When I got this pipe the stem was stuck in the shank, so I stuck it in the freezer for a few hours. When I tried to remove the stem it easily came out about 1/4" and then just snapped off. The stem itself also broke in two, which was rather horrifying. But undeterred I decided that the pipe wasn't worth the cost of replacing the stem. So using both epoxy and super glue I glued the whole mess together and also glued the stem to the shank. I figured that with such a short stem on a straight pipe with proper cleaning it would do fine as an occasional smoker. Have I sinned and now going to hell?

If you’re happy, that’s all that matters. As for going to hell, that’s way beyond my pay grade.

@mso489 was fond of saying that French pipes punch above their weight.
And I believe he is correct.

@agnosticpipe,
A real shame that that happened, as it is a lovely piece of work.
But so long as it is serviceable, that’s the important thing.
