Yes, it's a bit of a leap of faith to order a passel of tins without knowing you'll really like them enough to make it worth the outlay. HU doesn't seem to be interested in having a distributor in the States, though.
Given that other EU-based online retailers offer buyers outside the EU a lower price without VAT on a regular basis, I'm not sure I buy that (his explanation, that is, not yours). I asked him about the VAT charged to a US buyer, and he hasn't yet responded, even when he emailed to ask why I...
All very good points, and as you and @alaskanpiper said, the value proposition falls in favor of making up a large order to reduce the price per tin and to “justify” the shipping costs. And you’re right - if Pfeifen Depot is selling to a buyer outside the EU, they’re not supposed to be charging...
I actually created an account at Esterval's, and then balked when I saw their shipping costs. I've really been interested to try out Director's Cut and Fayyum Kake, though, so I may just end up biting the bullet.
I've never done much in the way of overseas ordering, but when I have, the sites have automatically deducted VAT from the price prior to shipping costs. I put in a request to them about it, but haven't heard anything back yet.
I like the Dark Fired Cherry pretty well, but I find leaving it out not just to dry a bit, but to help it "off gas" some of the tartness of the cherry, makes it a far more palatable blend. I have an order of the Byronic Slices incoming.
Good day, all - I've had my interest in HU Tobacco piqued, and it looks like the pfeifendepot.de is a recommended seller. In looking to place an order, the prices listed have 19% VAT included, and when I tried to check out of their online shop, the final sales price (before shipping) still...
A bowlful of 4Noggins' "Bald Headed Teacher" in a new Eric Paulson Devil Anse model (after I learned it some carbonization manners with a suitable helping of CH to help it cake up a bit). This 4Noggins blend has become a firm favorite chez Marlinspike. After a rainy, windy day, it was so still...
First bowlful of Seattle Pipe Club's "Puget Sound", smoked in a MM Pride cob. Interesting blend - I bet a year or two of it sitting unopened would make this a winner, IMO...it needs a bit of mellowing.
About to try a sample of Sutliff's 504C Aromatic English. I'm hoping I like it - it's been on sale! It's going into a Falcon bent stem with a rusticated bulldog bowl.
