***What Are You Smoking, June 2020?***

May i don’t know when they changed the labeling. My dad got a taste for chicory coffee when he was in the military, and I went to buy some for him when he was visiting a while ago, and I ended up with another brand, since the New Orleans blend didn’t have the ground chicory added anymore.

Interestingly enough, the New Orleans Blend no longer has chicory in it (but they do still sell a coffee/chicory blend). Community even sells bags of ground chicory, if you want to blend some into whatever coffee you prefer.

Just slicing up some C & D Dreams of Kadath for today's first bowlful. This stuff smells quite peppery and raisiny - should make for an interesting pipe session!

Sounds like a pleasant evening all around, with some good musical accompaniment!

Wilke Vermont Maple Cavendish in a MM Washington - this brand may have changed my mind about aromatic pipeweed! I've had this and 2 bowls of Wilke Gramercy, and enjoyed them both very much, along with their Cherry Cavendish (and have some Rumcake to try later). If I like Rumcake, that'll be 4...

    Forever Stems Are Back!

Yes indeed. I was cutting down a bunch of tree limbs, and nearly crunched right through one of the black plastic bits (not that it would take much to do that!). I ought to know better, since I can barely do 2 actual things at once without losing concentration on one of them...

    Journey of a Meerschaum

I always thought it would be groovy to have one of those smoking machines to color a new meerschaum.

Continuing my current run through the Wilke lineup, this morning's pipeful is Gramercy Park, in a Volkan bullcap.

    Journey of a Meerschaum

Are you trying the old trick of exhaling smoke on the outside to help the coloring along? (I've never done that, though, not wanting to fiddle with it).

    Forever Stems Are Back!

I've always resisted buying any aftermarket stems for any of my cob pipes, but recently I've damn near bitten through 2 different pipe stems while working out in the yard. I might replace 'em with the vulcanite stems, once they become available.

I am liking it - next up this evening is a bowl of Surbrug's Crystal Palace. I also like supporting a blender who's carrying on an American piping tradition. Do you know why John Brandt's no longer making Bohemian Mixture?

***What Are You Smoking, June 2020?***

Did you put a finish on this pipe, or have you been smoking plenty of "stank"? (that's what my grandfather used to call any strong-smelling, oily pipe tobacco).

***What Are You Smoking, June 2020?***

Second bowl of Wilke No. 111 in a MM unplastered Diplomat apple. I'm enjoying these Wilke blends...by the way, @jiminks , is "Wilke" pronounced with the final 'e' sounded ("wilk-ee"), or is it "Wilk" (rhymes with 'silk')? The No. 111 blend packs and burns like a champ - after a false light and...

That's why I asked the man who would know! puffy EDIT: Aha, I was reading these reviews, which cover a different variety of the blend: HU Tobacco - Aus dem Krater Nr. 5 (Kratermischung) - Tobacco Reviews - https://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/10718/hu-tobacco-aus-dem-krater-nr-5

Some reviewers on TR.com state that this blend is the same, or a very close copy of the Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky. Do you know if that's the case?

***What Are You Smoking, June 2020?***

I just got a package of samplers from Wilke, and I do believe No. 111 will be up first in tonight's lineup, in a Savinelli 673.

There you go, @petes03 - two recommendations in a row! Mine smokes well, and looks good (it has a particularly handsome tapered bit).
