There's an amusing aside to the Pete. When I first took it apart to clean it up, the previous owner had put a Medico paper filter in the Pipe. This is a system Pete, with reservoir and a large lumen to the shank end of the bit. The Pipe had been smoked very little and my guess the reason was... -

Sterling Tobacco Samples...
After becoming aware of Sterling a few months back, I've smoked a number of Jack's non-aromatics and found them pleasing. 1776 is excellent, as are Chairman of the Board and Country Store Natural, but the one I've put in the cellar is Richmond Blender's Choice. Yes, it can be dealt with in a number of ways. Assuming that the Pipe cleaner was wet with goo from a Pipe, then you can either wet/dry sand the Block's exterior with 600 grit and re-wax it or moisten a clean white cotton cloth with Everclear and wipe the surface, followed by rewaxing. fixed a bad smoking pipe
I know, unfortunately he espouses it about every other page or so. An otherwise fine book. I'm not a fan of doing it very often but in this case it was just the ticket. I agree. Working on opening up a Pipe's draft is something that gets done on as needed basis for me as well. Most Carvers...- fred
