    Dunhill Blends

I've read notice of CAO's disclosure, yet to be made public plan to start selling them at the trade show in New Orleans August 9-13th. This news comes from Byron Oost, who posted that his Rep called him up to advise him on this matter. The blends will be limited to: Deluxe Navy Rolls; The...

    Tin Baking

Yes, I have read about the methods that you've cited, but not tried them out. Fred Hanna's approach appealed as it seemed the most cautious approach of the group. He also discussed the use of Mason jars, and stated that he left the lid on, as a seal in his report on stoving Lancer's Slices...

Welcome to the fold. I'm confident that you'll get a number of answers to your question. I'll say get a Cob and whatever blend sounds good to you. It's the shallow end of the pool and will allow you to discover if you enjoy smoking a Pipe without big expense.

    Tin Baking

The temperature, the length of time and the heat source seem to be the differences in methods mentioned so far. I've also heard of using a crock pot, but have little knowledge of this method. Although I've used heat to speed up the hydration of blends, both by steam and use of a microwave...

    Tin Baking

About six months ago, Fred Hanna began to post about tin baking on SF. I became interested in this way of making fiery blends smoother and have had good results with it. The basic idea is to take a sealed tin, or a ball top jar with the tobacco in it and put it in the oven. Bring the...

July 2010 - What are you smoking?

It's Hamborger Veermaster in the Paul Fischer OomPaul. This blend can be a bit harsh. If you have the time, age helps it a good deal.

    Standardizing Pipe tobacco Scoring?

The thought that creates a list or system to approach standardization of reviews has merit but can turn into a stilted and mechanical process that yields a result of similar character. Joe and Tad, in P&T's Trial by Fire, show their mastery of this approach, which takes a good deal of self...
