Gorgeous Straight Grain Vollmer and Nilsson Lovat

Sorry I don't know how to copy the URL, but this a gorgeous pipe that's on Ebay right now. Bidding ends in 3 hours. Does anybody know anything about this brand? If I had the funds, I would be bidding on this beauty. Nice shape and killer grain.

    Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all forum members and their families. I plan on following the dietary advice of radio personality Faith Middleton today, which is; "don't eat more than you can lift". Remembering all those in our armed forces today, many of whom are serving in remote corners of the world...

How do you deal with pipe gurgle if you don't have a cleaner at hand?

I blow down the stem. It seems to me that slinging the pipe would drive the moisture into the stem, making matters worse, but that's just my opinion. However, I've seen a quite a few warnings against removing the stem of a warm pipe.

    Dam Walnut is Becoming Addictive

Never smoked it; will have to try it.

    Burly's

I favor English blends, but I bought some corn cobs and Carter Hall back in the summer for a change of pace. Then I wanted to see what a premium burley blend would be like, so I bought some Solani Aged Burley Flake and Wessex Burley Slice. Glad I did. There will always be some of both in my...

Meerschaums - Smooth vs. Lattice Finishes; Your Preference

I like the way smooth ones color, but I have also seen carved meerschaums that I like.

Have You Tried Mixing Different Blends?

I have never tried mixing blends. I bought some Latakia and Turkish leaf to see what they taste like by themselves. I think I will try mixing them with some OTC blends, like Carter Hall, to see what happens.

How do you store your pipes?

I have six pipe racks that I use. Two hold a dozen pipes and the others hold seven. I have a separate holder for my calabash and a few pipes are in drawers. A few meerschaums are in their original boxes. I rack all my pipes stem up. I read years ago about the preference of some Europeans to...

    Just Had A Biopsy

Good luck, Shawn. I hope all goes well. I know what you're going through with the wait for the results. My middle daughter got back test results on a biopsy of her thyroid last week and thankfully, it wasn't cancerous. We're all pulling for you and your boys.

I was given 10 pipes from the 60s...

The pipe with the tassel and rings, above the man with a hat is a Ropp Alpine, made in France out of cherry wood.

    Ashes

As hawk60ce said, dottle is the unsmoked tobacco left in the bowl. Some dictionaries have an incorrect definition of it. Helm, what were you smoking? I find that most ribbon cut English blends burn all the way down to an ash easily.

    Chuckle at Wife's Comment.

revs, your wife should get a job at an ad agency! oldshacker, smell is known to be a trigger of memory. I found this out years ago, when the smell of Mixture 79 always made me think of the student lounge at the college branch I attended back in the 1960's. Back then you could smoke anywhere...

    New Tobacco Blues

Lawrence I have wondered how many blends there are out there. Some would be duplicates of one actual blend, such as B&M's putting their label on 1Q. How many blends are in your data base?

    New Tobacco Blues

Vabriar, welcome to the forum. The posts by rotnh, philobeddo and Lawrence give you excellent advice and cover all the bases. There is little to add to what they said. What types of blends did you try? Were they all aromatics or a combination of aromatics, English blends, VaPers, straight...

    Estate PAD TAD Got Me

You gotta love tag sales! Nice looking GBD. Congratulations on a great score. The Latakia could very well be Syrian.

Pipe and Tobacco From The Old Cajun!

There is a spirit of brotherhood and generosity here, the likes of which I have not seen on any other forum of any type or subject.

What kind of thing is this

I have always avoided brands with stingers or filters. I recently bought two estate pipes that have stingers and, like others on this forum, found they cause more problems than they solve. They almost never get smoked. Take it out if you can and save it, in case you decide at some time to sell...

Thought you guys may get a kick out of this.

Well they are recyclable; never thought of doing that with my pipes. Maybe I should think of recycling my 40 to 50 year old briars? Umm, I don't think so.

    No cake.
