I have had experiences similar to all those mentioned here; I have both expensive and cheap pipes that smoke great and some that are rather disappointing. I smoke more corn cobs than anything because I like the easy and open draw and they are also my cheapest pipes. I have also found through...
My favorites so far in no particular order:
C&D Kajun Kake
C&D Exclusive
C&D Small Batch The Beast
Daughter's & Ryan Rimboche S.J.
Hearth & Home Anniversary Kake
GL Pease Stonehenge Flake/G&H Louisiana Flake
Escudo
Peterson's Elizabethan
I usually smoke my pipe indoors to avoid the wind, of it's calm and a nice day I will smoke on the front porch or the back deck. I smoke cigars outdoors only so I don't flood the house with smoke. I have an air purifier in the living room that can easily remove any residual odors from smoking a...
I predominantly smoke cobs and have not ran into an issue like this. The shapes I've smoked the most are Country Gentleman's, Legends with the Rob Roy shaped bowl, and unfinished Morgans. I will even allow them to build cake and then shave it back when needed. I have an Ozark hardwood but...
Tons of great suggestions so far! Some of my favorites currently are:
C&D Autumn Evening
C&D King Cake
Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic
Captain Black White
Cult Blood Red Moon
F&K Bat With A Hat
I prefer to smoke alone, just me, the pipe, and tobacco. Sometimes the wife will join in. I always smoke at home, either on the porch, the back deck, or while doing things around the house.
Black Locust was an instant hit in my book and will be getting some more when it hits the shelves in August. I find it well balanced between the Virginia's and orientals both having equal strength in flavor while smoking with the honey and tequila there to compliment but not overpower the tobaccos.
Definitely a great article and well worth the read. Like Greg, I have no hard or fast rule about drying/not drying. I let the tobacco and the pipe do the talking. If I smoke a blend in a particular pipe and I have issues due to moisture then I give some dry time for the next smoke, if not I...
I too am a big fan of Autumn Evening. I don't smoke it as often as I used to but it's definitely one fine aromatic. I never noticed a cigarette taste to it, just the maple topping and some good tobacco flavors. It's also one of the few aromatics I don't give any dry time to because it tends to...
My first pipe was a Dr. Grabow Savoy I bought back in 2015. I still have it and it smokes Captain Black White like a champion so that's all I smoke in it. That's the only pipe in my collection that I've dedicated to one blend.
Old Joe Krantz and Haunted Bookshop share the same component tobaccos but the proportions of them are different. I thoroughly enjoy them both. In fact Haunted Bookshop would be my choice as a deserted island blend 😁
I think most of the negative sentiment comes from people who just want to complain about anything and everything. You run into people who bash whatever brand they choose and then rant and rave about whichever brand they profess to be the best. Sutliff makes so many blends and as others have...
I am happy to see they will be regular production blends and not another limited edition. Blenders have run the L.E. thing into the ground the last couple years. I love DFK tobacco but I too feel a little disappointed there isn't any Italian dark fired in at least one of the three. I've been...
