    I'm getting a beer fridge

As was mentioned, the fridge is bad news for your tobacco. I just keep mine in a closed wooden wine box raised a few feet off the floor where it is at the normal humidity, shielded from light, and at a constant temperature... I don't know if that's the "proper" way to do it but so far, so...

    Bayou Morning (bulk)

To me it was akin to smoking hay or straw. And not tobacco with pleasant undercurrents of these flavours, but literally tasteless dried grass... It wasn't sweet, nor much of anything else to be frank... I was earmarking this 4oz for immediate consumption but if my next few bowls don't agree with...

Dedicated on ONE brand or blend

I find that nothing else I try gives me the same experience as Escudo. I don't know what it is, but no blend has matched it yet - even all other va/pers have been falling short... Not to mention that its raisiny tin note and coin cut are my absolute favourite, and the Virginias are sublime. I...

    EF Ebay!!!!!

Thanks a lot whimsy, I've seen that one - Mama Bear's Old Spice fragrance is supposed to be pretty dead on, but I haven't heard too much about its shaving properties. (Glycerine versus tallow in the original soap) The price is certainly right, though - you can't go wrong with $10 if it is a...

Dedicated on ONE brand or blend

I'm starting to feel different than most people around here - I'm starting to crave consistency more and more. Early on, variety was what I was all about and the hunt for new blends was very exciting. To be honest, though, I've been finding a lot of disappointment with the latest tobaccos I've...

    Bayou Morning (bulk)

Thanks for the tip. I've heard that the bulk and the flake were something of a different animal, but that was all. I just jarred up the bulk and gave it a shake that time. I'm hoping it makes a difference in the flavour quality next time. It was definitely a big letdown, however, compared what I...

    Odyssey vs Ten Russians?

It's just slang, sorry if I was imprecise. It sounded like you knew exactly what we were talking about since your suggestions matched perfectly with my own research. It seems that all of those categories you mention are open to interpretation, but I guess what I was looking for was a heavy...

    Odyssey vs Ten Russians?

doctorthoss, Thank you for going into detail about Odyssey for me. I think that dose of sweetness and the oriental complexity you are talking about is ideal for my purposes. Don't get me wrong, I wants lots and lots of smokiness - a lat bomb - but if it was as as simple as throwing higher and...

What a laugh. Maybe it's a lost Dunhill...

    EF Ebay!!!!!

There's only three outcomes with eBay: a)uncontested auction - then it's either dumb luck or a low demand item b)early bids escalate to an all out bidding war, which does nothing but result in crazy final prices c)sniping, which you are the victim of; this is actually preferable in my...

    Aging flake

It definitely can't hurt, IMO, but it may change how it ages exactly. Split one tin between two jars, one whole and the other rubbed out and compare the results a year down the road!

    Bayou Morning (bulk)

I'm not prepared to give this a review just yet, but my first impression of Bayou Morning wasn't great. Strike one... It was really flavourless for the entire bowl. I don't know if the perique sank through the bulk bag or something, but even so I did not get any love from the Virginias either...

    Odyssey vs Ten Russians?

Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at with Ten Russians... I see almost universal praise for Odyssey, and it sounds like it packs a lot of depth in with its latakia punch; TR on the other hand gets blasted as often as it is praised for being over the top. Pirate Kake is probably much the same thing...

    Aging flake

I wouldn't do it because it'd be a hassle, first of all, but I'd think flakes are meant to age as is. Not to mention that you would probably accelerate the drying process by doing it that way. All the same, if you have a cheap flake feel free to give it a shot.

    Virginia

I'm not a big stickler on the subject. I would usually consider straight Virginias to contain nothing but a mixture of different Virginia tobaccos, but something as subtle as Orlik Golden Sliced (where the perique isn't really detectable) is close enough to my definition... As long as Virginia...

New pipe smoker working out my preferences...

Don't forget Virginia Perique blends in your search... To me, it is the tastiest and simplest combination of all! I like latakia as much as the next guy but I'm a sucker for the spiciness found in a good va/per. And Escudo followed by a dark roasted black coffee - magnificent!

    new Stokkebeye generation 4

Well, since Stokkebye is a huge Danish tobacco manufacturer, it makes sense to me... I don't know anything about the young Stokkebye but it probably wouldn't make sense to start up your own operation when you have such connections already... I have plenty of tins from Denmark; it wouldn't...

    Any pipe smokers from Montreal?

I'm pretty sure I was in Vasco, it was definitely a cigar place. I would guess that you can find the typical drugstore blends found around Canada in addition to a wide variety of cigarettes, but there is no question what there specialty is... The day I visited there was actually a visiting Cuban...

    Blatter & Blatter

I had a great experience at Blatter & Blatter last year. I spoke with one gent who was really helpful and quite nice to chat with; I presume he was one of the younger Blatters. I bought several Cohiba cigars and about $100 in pipe tobacco. (Four 50g tins I believe) If I had more cash on me that...

    Odyssey vs Ten Russians?

Nope. I've never had any C&D latakia blends. I've heard they've got some monsters though, Pirate Kake included.
