    $150.00 For all of These!

It'd be nice to paw through them all and see if you can get your moneys worth. Nothing ventured nothing gained. As long as you are just as happy to leave empty handed there's nothing wrong with checking it out.

    Anyone Like Captain Black

Amen, igloo. I'll add to that. When you find one of those great blends in a metal tin, sometimes it is better to stock up than to roll out in search of the next best thing because you may never find it... Back to the topic. There are times when I genuinely miss the burning marshmellow smell of...

    Anyone Like Captain Black

puffinbudgie, The key to enjoying the Captain is definitely to let the pouch dry. It is unbearably difficult to smoke right out of the gates... bigvan, I'm afraid you expect too much from what is a simple OTC blend. Without all those preservatives you'd never find a fresh pouch. It is what it...

    Pipe Smoking and the Military.

    Guess I wouldn't be declaring a thing!

    Jar vs Tin?

You shouldn't leave multiple blends open in their unsealed tins, in my experience. Small mason jars are certainly preferable to an open tin. If, for example, you only had one blend that you were planning to smoke through in a short period of time, then I'd say it's alright to leave it in the...

Two more flakes make it to rotation

Thanks cigrmaster. Both sound good. I was thinking about the Wessex Gold myself. Not to hijack the thread but since we are talking about F&T and red VA, does anyone like Blackjack?

    Pipe Smoking and the Military.

That's too bad, man. Awfully heavy handed order, even for the military!

    Samual Gaiwith no more

The supply ebbs and flows, I figure I'll be ebbing and flowing with it...

    Licorice tobacco?

Peter Heinrichs Dark Strong Flake. Not quite an aromatic, however - the sweet licorice casing compliments the dark Virginia Burley combination very well, however. It is the first blend where I have been able to detect licorice without question. I believe that Sail Green has some licorice, as well.

    Meerschaum lined pipe

I would imagine that the fragility and suspect quality of the meerschaum lining make it less desirable than your Nording, if you happen to like it at all...

    Anyone Like Captain Black

Captain Black White was the first thing I ever smoked. I liked the aroma but it needs WEEKS or MONTHS of drying time to be somewhat smokeable... I used to open the pouch and leave it sitting for a long while before I'd even go back to it. Maybe if you dry each pipeful for hours and hours in...

    Virginias and Va/Pers

I gravity fill it in two steps, with a light tamp after the first one and an even gentler tamp after the second. It also doesn't hurt to sprinkle some fine loose tobacco/scraps from the flake on top as tinder...

All hail Saint Bruno (old Pipe Tobacco Commercials)

Looks like she'd char the hell out of your rims but other than that it'd be a fine thing to come home to. lol.

    Virginias and Va/Pers

Ok, so you are a former cigarette smoker new to pipes. Gotcha. Regarding cubecuts, have you experimented with the dryness level beforehand? Cube the flakes, separate the cubes on a paper towel for a few minutes (ranging from 5-20 minutes depending on how moist they are) and then give it a...

    Virginias and Va/Pers

+1 I am now pretty much a flake devotee and have found that cleaning my pipes religiously AND cube cutting/gravity filling my flakes has immensely improved my experience with VA. It also might not hurt to clarify if you've just been sampling small quantities of these blends or if you've been...

Seeking hands on experience with aging specific blends

Bob's Chocolate Flake. Smoked half of it fresh, aged the rest for almost 2 years. (More like jarred it and forgot about it) Verdict - Way too long. Still alright because the leaf is good, but not as nice or distinctive as it once was. If you want that soapy, chocolatey aromatic with noticeable...

    Virginias and Va/Pers

I'm not saying this is a reason for you, but I find it affects my ability to enjoy the subtler tastes of VA: Is there much sugar in your diet? If you are eating/drinking fruit, desserts, white breads, beer, soda, sweet coffee or tea anytime soon before smoking then that impairs your ability to...

    TAD Arrival (with pictures)

Damn son, you weren't kidding anyone when you said you smoked a lot... Funny that I haven't tried barely any of those on your list but I've got my sights on Dunhill Flake. Nice haul, all the same. Enjoy it.

    Bogus Charge to Visa

I've never been burned with any online purchases to date but after our vacation last year my girlfriend was hit with fraudulent charges placed on both her VISA and debit card... I'm pretty watchful about it - always have been - but it can happen to anyone. Especially if you are honestly dealing...

House Blends? Big name Blends? Same/Indifferent?

I'd say more often than not "house blends" are repackaged these days unless you can get a reliable confirmation from the company that they are originals. Especially if we are talking about a suburban tobacconist that nobody's heard of, for example.
