Dr. Grabow Restoration, Trying Rustication, Pics

Murray I basically went down the middle of a Phillips to make 4 "tines". Then I sharpened each one and they came out uneven. After that is was just pushing and twisting as I went. If you google image search rustification tool you'll find some. Some of them with nails and screws look like a...

    TAD Nice Haul From 4Noggins!

Love that LBF. Good for you. Coal I don't get much of a nic bump from LBF. If any. Haddo's Delight make me feel like hugging people though... I would venture that HD is average on the nic front.

My First Attempt at Stem Restoration

Jimbo. I just bought a cheapo (>$20) Aluminium polishing set from Harbor Freight that goes in the end of my cordless drill. Works pretty well for my below average needs.

What Are You Smoking? April 2013

Before I put the kids to bed, I sat on the porch and had a mighty fine bowl of McCelland's Beacon with a cup of coffee. BBQ Brisket in a pipe. Can't wait to pair it with a nice beer.

Dr. Grabow Restoration, Trying Rustication, Pics

Thanks much. I practiced an old spare bowl I had to try and get a feel for it. My two year old was watching me a gleam in his eye.... I'm sure I'll find him standing on my liqueur cabinet "rusticating" all my smooth pipes or the cat. I'm not happy with it yet. I might make a new tool out of...

    Second Peterson Pipe for Me

Durham that's a nice Pete. That birdseye looks sharp. 314?

Sommer Paneled Fat Rhodesian (Cf. GBD 9242)

I'm digging that stem pitch. Congrats.

    Dottle, The Unburned Tobacco

Same. I'm glad people can smoke the entire bowl "down to a fine gray ash". I can't. The relights at that level just taste blech to me. I'd rather grab a fresh bowl. The little bit that's left over goes into the flower bed. Gives the squirrels something to use in their RYO's.

    Casing? Your Own Tobacco

Hey Murray welcome aboard and congrats on quitting cigs.

Dr. Grabow Restoration, Trying Rustication, Pics

I picked up this pipe with the express purpose of butchering it. I stripped, topped it, rounded the bowl to try and even it out a bit, cleaned it, and sanded it. I then used my dremel to turn a screw driver into a rustication tool and then proceeded to stab myself in the hand about 8 times and...

    Raleigh TAPS Haul

Nice Boz! I like the finish on that Sav...the carved line really classes it up. Jackknife Plug has been on my to get list, but I keep bumping it.

    Comoys "Exceptional Grade"?

Awesome that thing comes with it's own show horn. On a serious note. I am always amazed just how far carvers can go with wood. I can't even make a straight line with a ruler and these guys can bend and flow wood like it's water. I bet that pipe looks fantastic in person. In all three dimensions.

What Are You Smoking? April 2013

McClelland's Beacon in a Peterson XL315. Coffee. Getting ready for a day of kid's school projects, some supervised painting, and hopefully some pipe restoration if I can get them off my work spot.

My First Attempt at Stem Restoration

Yaz those look good. Stems are always my least favorite cleaning part. Gives me more incentive to take care of them. It is a slippery slope. I've got some incoming pipes I cant wait to get too.

    Ok, Got a Few Replacements...

Sounds like Vulcanite. The sticker could have kept it protected. Congrats on your new pipes. Pics!
