55 Years of Smoking a Pipe

Great post Eric. I always love hearing stories from an old timer... I hope to be one someday...!

    From Turkey - Direct

With the recent interest in this thread and the folks becoming more inclined toward getting a meerschaum, I thought I'd post an update on the pipe I started this with. I can't tell you how happy I am with the way this pipe smokes, and with how it's coloring. I don't know what Mr. Emin did, but...

    Dunhill Mixtures are Uniquely Awesome

I keep EMP and Nightcap handy in bulk, and smoke them every day as the names suggest. The majority of my tins set and age... I usually have a few tins open but these two Dunhills are my daily workhorse smokes, morning and evening. I wish we had London Mixture in bulk. I just opened a four years...

    Calabash w/ Ceramic Bowl

HaHaaaa There is nothing wrong with a ceramic or press meerschaum bowl in a calabash pipe if you want a nice big pipe to set in your chair in the evening to enjoy.... I've seen them made with wooden bodies but haven't tried one. I do have a press meerschaum in a gourd body, I forget the maker...

Cleaning Your Pipe After A Smoke

Everyone has their cleaning method and I'll never bad mouth a one. But after smoking for 42 years here's what works for me, and is the least destructive to my pipes.... On all my pipes, run a pipe cleaner down the tube after smoking. Bend it in half and rub the bowl to remove ash. No, this...

My Oldest Tins - What are yours?

Great catch beefeater33... I also have many Dunhill tins, and some others I really should dive into soon. As some Europeans and Australians have pointed out lately, we are lucky that we can put aside tobacco for a bit later....

    A Cob Pipe... Really?

Well, anyone that knows me can attest that I'm not crazy about them, but I do have a couple....

    A Cob Pipe... Really?

I very seldom smoke my meerschaums or briers outside when I'm busy doing something with my hands. But a cob pipe is just the right thing while working in the shop or leaning over in the engine of the truck. It's the perfect pipe to smoke on the lake or in the woods, lite and easy to clench...

    American meershaum?

    The Gourd Calabash Lovers Thread

Fikri Baki makes pipes with real gourd bodies and block meerschaum. They are rather expensive but well worth the price. The pipe on the right is a Strambach, made in Austria. It has a gourd body, but a press meerschaum bowl. It'll never color like a block will, but smokes great. Pipe on the left...

    Dedicated Fishing Thread-Pictures& Discussion

My baby daughter came to stay with me at the fish camp for a few days. I say baby, she'll be 30 next week and starts her second year in Pharmacy School the week after that. Anyway, she had a ball and we caught a lot of fish. I brought home 16 quarts of fillets and she took home 6. Here was...

How Many Pipes Do You Own?

I have a couple hundred I guess. I'm like Bradley.... I have a program on my iPhone called "OneNote". I try to photograph each pipe and log what I paid (or close as I can remember) and what it's worth today. My oldest son knows about it but wifie stays in the dark....!

Five Brothers a Good Short Smoke

I smoke Five Brothers when working in my shop or on the golf course.... when I'm really not paying attention.

Meerschaum: Cake Prevention, Coloring, and General Maintenance?

Walt... You may really have some good information to pass on about waxing a meerschaum pipe, but if I were a film critic, I'd have to say that I lost internist after the first 12 minuets of Umms, Aaas and Errrs. Gosh, I'm sure I sound like a complete ass, but..... Dang! Can I suggest a bit...

Meerschaum: Cake Prevention, Coloring, and General Maintenance?

Pipe Novelist, there isn't a way to avoid cake build-up completely, but the suggestions above are good ones. After smoking and cleaning, I also use a "bristled" pipe cleaner bent in half/doubled up to rub up and down in the bowl to get some of the carbon. It's more abrasive and will get a good...
