Dunhill Mixtures are Uniquely Awesome
I keep EMP and Nightcap handy in bulk, and smoke them every day as the names suggest. The majority of my tins set and age... Calabash w/ Ceramic Bowl
HaHaaaa There is nothing wrong with a ceramic or press meerschaum bowl in a calabash pipe if you want a nice big pipe to set in your chair in the evening to enjoy.... I've seen them made with wooden bodies but haven't tried one. I do have a press meerschaum in a gourd body, I forget the maker...- topd

I very seldom smoke my meerschaums or briers outside when I'm busy doing something with my hands. But a cob pipe is just the right thing while working in the shop or leaning over in the engine of the truck. It's the perfect pipe to smoke on the lake or in the woods, lite and easy to clench...- topd

The Gourd Calabash Lovers Thread
Fikri Baki makes pipes with real gourd bodies and block meerschaum. They are rather expensive but well worth the price. The pipe on the right is a Strambach, made in Austria. It has a gourd body, but a press meerschaum bowl. It'll never color like a block will, but smokes great. Pipe on the left... -

How Many Pipes Do You Own?
I have a couple hundred I guess. I'm like Bradley.... I have a program on my iPhone called "OneNote". I try to photograph each pipe and log what I paid (or close as I can remember) and what it's worth today. My oldest son knows about it but wifie stays in the dark....! -

Pipe Novelist, there isn't a way to avoid cake build-up completely, but the suggestions above are good ones. After smoking and cleaning, I also use a "bristled" pipe cleaner bent in half/doubled up to rub up and down in the bowl to get some of the carbon. It's more abrasive and will get a good...- topd
