Two New Pipes from the Kansas City Show

Different and unique, congratulations on the new pipes.

    New Restoration project

I may be mistaken (have been a couple times before) but that pipe looks like a meershaum. If it is, it will take a completely different method of restoration. I'll watch for the pictures as you progress.

    Turned Off of Aromatics

I pretty much mirrored you when I started a pipe. Only my love of aromatics lasted only a couple weeks. I then moved to other blends and haven't really looked back. Although I have a few quality aromatics in the cellar and touch on them ever so occasionally. As I said, quality aromatics, what I...

    No. 4 Mini-Billiardish!

Spent part of Friday making a pipe. I have quite a few smaller straight cut Eubachons so thought I'd try my hand at actually making my first billiard shape and first smallish pipe. I don't think I even got close on the billiard part but it didn't actually turn out to be too bad a pipe. It is a...

Dangers of a Quality Local B&M......

I'm in the sticks and the only true shop is about 100 miles away. But I do stop at shops when I'm traveling for work and share your pain/enjoyment of a good B&M.

curious about my latest find, unsmoked 4hole kaywoodie

The shape should be a straight billiard and the years the standard were made were between 1950-1970. Sounds like, from the condition you describe, it could be New/Old stock. Meaning it is a new pipe a shop may have had and never sold, or perhaps in someones collection and they never smoked it...

    Pipes and Tobacco Magazine!

Cowboy, I don't. I've found that most places selling such things either advertise in other magazines or do their selling Via the internet.

    Third pipe, First Rhodesian!

Thanks for all the positive comments on the flawed pipe. I'm having fun with pipe making and learning as I go. I'll post more as I make them.

    Third pipe, First Rhodesian!

This is the third pipe I made in the new shop. I wanted to make a Rhodesian and after drilling the block, I started shaping. The tool rest moved on me catching the corner of the block and almost pulling it from my jaws. (The ones I made, but they held fast and didn't kill me with a flying block...

    Pipes and Tobacco Magazine!

I just got my summer 2011 copy of P&T and am thoroughly enjoying reading the articles and stories in it. I especially liked the read on Alex Florov. It's kind of neat seeing the articles on the pipe makers, knowing that I've met these guys at the pipe shows that I've attended. I love the...

    Mitchell Thomas pipe bought...

Been in Pipe Dreams before. I was looking for a pipe/cigar shop and that place wasn't quite what I had in mind. I get to Texas pretty often when I'm working, both Dallas and Houston.

    Look what I found today!

Good tobacco in a great jar.......... It's nice to find forgotten treasures for sure.

    What Did You do Today?

Made some improvements on my canoe hauling trailer, had a BBQ with friends and a fellow pipe maker and rode the scooter a bit. Also weeded the garden and picked some nice fresh green onions for the BBQ. Smoked a bowl of Balkan 759 in a pipe I made and now finishing the night with some Squadron...

    A cool djarnett

I've been lucky enough to meet Horace. Even attended a dinner party at his place and watched him play in his shop. He does make some nice stuff. But I've not seen him use color like that before. I like it too.

    Favorite Tamper

My favorites are some I've made. The ones I like most are a combination of antler and exotic woods.

What do you suggest as a good morning smoke?

I like a good light english as my morning smoke. I go for squadron leader.

    Finally settled in...

I've visited or traveled thru Phoenix several times. While I enjoyed it, I prefer nice big hardwood trees to cacti. But, that being said, I look forward to visiting again soon. And I have been in Stag.

    50's fridge = humidor?

Working as a fridge it wouldn't be good for a humidor......... but with a bit of mod it would work great. If you want to line it, luan plywood in 1/4" would work great and is very reasonably priced. I've been told that it holds humidity just like Spanish cedar and is a lot cheaper. I made a...

What is the least you would pay for tobacco?

The least I'd pay.......... Well, I'd let them pay me to take it and I wouldn't even complain about the quality. :nana:

    Air Hole

Shortly after taking up pipe smoking, I started refurbing my own pipes and then found that opening up the airways on both the pipe and the stem helped my smoking enjoyment. Now I've started dabbling in the making of pipes and I drill my blocks and stems much more open that most factory pipes. I...
