    I followed that method as well, I even did it clockwise (although I didn't know that bit about the drill bit) Still my stem is looser than it was :(

    I used to do that, but the stem on my first pipe started to get noticeably loser than it was before. I only have good pipes so I try not to remove the stem as much. It's difficult with bent pipes, though.

    I'm only 23 but I have had a full beard since I was 16. It was long for awhile but the last year i've cut it down to a few cm - an inch or so. Was funny telling people I was 18 when I had a long beard and a handlebar mustache which I could pull up to my forehead.

    Other posters have made good points, I would like to add that when I get a new pipe, it burns hot for the first 5-10 smokes before it is broken in, usually. How long have you had the pipe? Either way it is probably not so good that it gets so hot that you can't touch it, but it might improve...
