    Luciano Prices Trending Up

I recently acquired my first Luciano, a smooth brown 235b. A billiard with a very thick bowl, it is designed and engineered to provide a cool smoke and is perfect for flakes. If Lucianos are as good as this one, I will be acquiring at least another one in the future.

    Esoterica Dunbar

It's my favorite VaPer. I always age it in the cellar for 3-5 years (if I can hold off that long). When you pop the tin, it emerges from a well-stained wrapper and the taste is glorious.

    Maugham and Haddo's Delight

Mr. Haddo's in The Magician was of course modeled after Alastair Crowley who liked to smoke pure or near-pure Perique laced with some liquor. Therefore the nicotine strength found in a blend named after the character named after Crowley.

    Persecuted in San Jose

Tell them that their smokeless breath when they exhale bothers you and hurts your feelings. Take photos of them breathing and wasting oxygen, which is what these people do in the world.

    Contemplative Pipe Smoking

I smoke at my desk, usually while on the computer or watching TV. Almost never while reading, for some reason. My favorite activity while smoking a pipe is watching Three Stooges dvds. Ah Curly, ah humanity!

    Dunhill Einstein Pipe

He smoked the Phillip Morris Revelation. HoW took over production years after Einstein's passing.

    Fighting Tongue Bite With Water?

I refresh and soothe my palate two or three times daily with Biotene. It's worked for me, particularly if I smoke a latakia-heavy blend prior to going to bed and want to avoid that blanket tongue in the morning.

    Edgeworth Red

DGT'ing the English/Orientals overnight is no biggie; what was contraindicated to me is the real DGT, i.e., several days.

What kind of sorcery is this?

mso489, you say that the new Comoys are no longer made in England, but the ones in the link indicate England as the origin. So I suppose they're made in France and distributed from England? I also note that the stems are acrylic, not ebonite or vulcanite.

    The GBD Collectors Thread

I have one GBD Fifth Avenue, Made In France. The shape is a very rare one (to me, at least): a Saucer. It took me forever to find the correct description (not from a GBD shape chart, though). It has satin stain and I bought it new in the early 1980s. Still a great smoker, although not a...

    Edgeworth Red

I was warned a long time ago not to attempt DGT'ing aros. Or some oriental blends, particularly the latakia-forward ones. I only DGT some Virginias and vapers, in observance of that old advice. I only received a sample of the Edgeworth Red, so I'm very careful in smoking it slowly but at one...

    Edgeworth Red

I've experienced no bite whatsoever either. The first codger-style aro that I've liked. Wish I'd found it back in the day when the only blends available to everyone in the places where I lived (for both old and young) were the OTC dreck.

    Edgeworth Red

Doctorbob, if the tin rust didn't get into the tobacco it should smell and taste fine. Mine did. At least it will provide a daily allowance of iron.

Paul's Maple Walnut in the Guildhall bulldog.

    Edgeworth Red

I don't know, maybe the Larus version was better than that of the successor manufacturer. The tobacco in this Larus tin is fine, and I can tell the difference. The late Bob Runowski ('morleysson'), pipe tobacco connoisseur and master blender (OJK, Morley's Best, Epiphany, etc.), is the one...

    Edgeworth Red

papipeguy, according to the mostly negative or blah reviews of Lane VIP, there is birch syrup but no brandy and it contains mostly black Cavendish and burley. Some noted that it leaves a harsh aftertaste. So I think that the similarity to ER ends with the listing of birch as an ingredient.

    Angler's Dream

stanlaurel, I recently became acquainted with Chestnut and I like it too, even better than I liked Walnut, which I liked a lot.

    Edgeworth Red

It is also mentioned in an old post (2012) in pipes.org posted by someone who had just received a tub of the stuff. Coincidentally, his handle is hunter too. Small world.

Why, Yes I Am: Presbyterian Mixture

It is fairly well-known that the reason it's called Presbyterian Mixture is because originally (circa 1918) it was blended specially for a Presbyterian bishop or a similar elder of that church in England. He offered some of it to a future Prime Minister who henceforth became known as a diehard...

    Edgeworth Red

I recently posted a similar review of this blend in tobaccoreviews.com. Smoking Edgeworth Red recalled to my mind Sir James Barrie's Holy Grail blend, to which he gave the fictitious name of The Arcadia Mixture. ER is very old, and so am I but I don't remember it from back in the day. I've...
