    Gods and Generals and Gettysburg

I would not be surprised to learn that there were hand carved hardwood pipes around.

    Mr.Brog old army

Thanks buckeye, the sturdiness of the cap was my only question regarding this one. Glad to hear it isn't just for looks.

What Do You Do Whilst Smoking?

I tend to smoke all day so what ever I'm doing at the time is what I do when smoking my pipe.. I am fond of staring blankly into the middle distance when alone with an interesting blend.

    Peterson 303 System Standard?

I have a 303 and I love it although it is a small bowl. Great for flakes or quick dog walking smokes.

Figuring out what I like (About time)

I'm eclectic these days. Being so new to real tobacco I'm in the "kid in a candy shop" phase. I want to try everything, eventually. I am very fond of English/Balkan blends and likely will remain so, but variations on the theme of Virginia based flake, also get my attention. Reading reviews...

    The First Pipe I Carved

Massively impressive. That is a real beauty. Knowing it's the first in many years says a lot. When you started carving again, did you find that you had developed a different, better understanding of the carving, during the time you were not doing it?? I hope that made sense.

    How much do you smoke?

For me it's easy to go through many bowls a day. I'm a writer and have my own grubby little space, to work and smoke in without interference from the outside. I don't "go to work". Also, we have a large garden on the roof of the building where the smokers hang out in the winter. We've built a...

    Gave the cob another try!

I find there is a very subtle caramel corn taste in a brand new cob. It goes well with straight Virgina flake. That disappears very quickly. You will taste the beech wood (I think) stem when you burn off the very top of it. That also goes quickly. Like people, you never really know how long...

    How much do you smoke?

Ha, I feel better now. :) My only real world pipe smoking friend was quite taken aback when I mentioned that I have about eight bowls a day. He seemed to think that was way over board, like it was a very unusual amount. I used the pipe to escape my cigarette habit. I have a well entrenched nic...

    John Pattons Storm Front

I see I'm not the only one who really should not read these reviews and discussion. It's becoming expensive.:) I'm fond of cigars but not the price of them. So I've been reading the reviews of pipe tobaccos with cigar leaf in the blend. Now I really Must try Storm Front ( I even like the name)...

    My Favorite Smoke so far

Ditto, what the esteemed Doc Watson said. That is the best part of pipe smoking, the constant search for taste treats and learning what different things actually smell and taste like.

    SG~Best Brown Flake

I recently found a tin of Best Brown at a local shop, I get the 1792 and St. James Flake from the same shop. I've experimented with mixing a bit of 1792 with St. James. I am quite pleased with the result, even if it was originally done by total accident. Soon I shall speak of Best Brown Flake...

A tale of Two-1792 Flake and St. James Flake

Yes, this is a pleasure I would never have had with the white nails. Later I must try the same idea with best brown flake. Tonight, in fact. In a short time I've become almost obsessed with tobacco, different plants, different curing methods, different locations, and the infinity of possible...

    UFC on Fox

I rarely bet on these things for the same reason. I'm usually wrong. I hope you are correct about dos Santos and Velasquez. I've nothing against Cain but I like dos Santos and believe he has a bit of an edge. I do expect this one to end via stoppage.

Well, I'm Gutted - Ashamed To Call Myself An Aussie ....

This has gotten me so angry I want to break things, especially some people. Are we now ashamed of our veterans. I remember when the sec. of Defense, for the LAST American administration referring to wounded vets as a "drain on national security". Left, right, or centre, I do not understand this...
