Largo FL City Employees Banned from Smoking During Work Hours

my reply at the site: How stupid. Unless tobacco use interferes with a worker performing his job or endangers the worker (smoking in a high oxygen environment) this should be let alone. The anti-tobacco zealots' harping on this is NOT appreciated by thinking people. The little Hitlers who try...

    Excellent clay pipe from Dawnmist!

That's a kewl looking pipe, nemrod. I notice yours is not like the "barber pole" in the ad (contrasting clay colors, which I had never seen). I have several "traditional" clays, mostly by Stephen Bray of Nova Scotia (I don't think he's in business anymore. :( ) He mailed me the pipes in boxes...

Help Fix the Biggest Threat to Pipe Tobacco

I agree with lonestar (as my reply at the link shows). We do have an issue with the RYO makers, but they are not the real enemy. We must all hang together or else we will all hang separately.

    aldo Volani pipes??

Misspelling on eBay is your FRIEND! I was the winner (and only bidder) on a nice Ropp cherrywood last year that the seller had mistakenly listed as a ROOP. 8O Now, if only I could find that S. Bong I've been looking for.

    New Look

I like the bolder masthead, etc. but the "barber pole" topic list in the forums is annoying. The background should be one color (ideally, white) and read posts should change color for convenience.

    I Believe

fullbent said, "Local bar owners are frowning heavily on the consept." Frowning heavily will get them nowhere. They should be UP IN ARMS! Call, write, MEET with those who will approve or disapprove of this "concept". Free men who do nothing to stave off disaster are not worthy of being free men.

    POKERDOG!!

That is a KEWL looking pipe! The bowl shape reminds me of my Ropp cherrywood (with "dog grooves" added).

What makes a pipe a good smoker ?

As a former tenor sax man myself (anybody interested in a good used King Silver Sonic?), I know how variations in mouthpieces can also affect pipes. If a pipe doesn't feel right in my mouth, I will not like smoking it. Too-sharp corners and big buttons are an example. P-lips also irk me. :?

Best way to clean tarnished sterling silver band

I would definitely remove the stem before cleaning. With a new pipe, you are a long way off from worrying about constant removal affecting the fit. Flitz does do wonders on oxidized vulcanite stems, but I've never tried it on silver. The trouble with any paste is removing it from the nooks and...

Got Prince Albert in a can?

Crank calls? We used to ask to page Mike Mehoff. When that got no results, we'd ask them to page his brother Jack. As for Prince ALbert cans, I have several that are still presentable... that my grandfather used back around 1920. None say "Now King", unfortunately... those are real...

Thanks for the tips guys. You're never too old to learn something. :worship:

    flaking cake

While I have been smoking pipes for years, there is still a "bone of contention" that I haven't mastered yet. Namely, how to get and keep a nice, even cake in my briars. I think I have started a nice cake in a pipe when, to my consternation, I notice a big flake of the cake has slaughed off...

    First Smoke

My first smoke was a King Edward Invincible that I "liberated" from an uncle. I smoked it behind the barn for a few minutes, let it go out and hid the butt for the next "session". I could stretch one cigar for a month or more. Much later (in college) I bought my first pipe, a...

"Strike anywhere" matches disappearing in your area too?

I can still find the Diamond Kitchen-size Strike Anywhere matches. I would hate it if they became unavailable because they are my main mode of pipe lighting indoors. (I have several vintage "cafe style" match striker/holders around the house I always keep filled and use.)

    My first Peterson

Sweet Killarney is a nice aromatic and I like it for a change of pace from the Va. and VaPers. I like Peterson pipes of the standard configuration... ie: no P-lip and no System (bad solutions to no-existant problems, IMO).

No smoking ban in Macon, GA--Barely, for now

Bravo to Macon, Ga.! I feel very sorry that there was not this kind of opposition to a smoking ban in my own nearby city last year, when a blanket ban passed by a 3 to 1 margin in a city-wide referendum. :x

The Blends of Summer - New Article by G. L. Pease

A thoughtful article! As a "hobby" pipe smoker (one or two bowls a day only), I rarely smoke a latakia in the warm (read HOT) seasons. It just doesn't seem to fit the occasion like a bowl of Penzance in front of a fireplace on a cold winter night does.

    Penzance in stock

Penzance fans (and I am one) seem to be like the devotees of the Arcadia Mixture in J.M. Barrie's "My Lady Nicotine": there's just NO substitute for its delights. :D I scored a couple of tins a couple weeks ago courtesy of a #pipes chat friend who found several in an out-of-the-way B&M up...

    I smoke outside...

My grandfather smoked in this house. My father smoked in this house, and by god, I smoke in this house. My only rule regarding smoking here is don't burn the house down.

    In Regards to Tattoos

I will not state what I think about tattoos because I don't want a bunch of people mad at me.
