Possible to save a dried out tin??

I successfully rehydrated a ten year old tin of "Early Morning Pipe" by laying a damp paper towel over the open tin, then closing the lid over it. 24 hours later the tobacco seemed a lot more moist.

    Where do you live?

Beaverton, Oregon. It's a town just west of Portland, pretty much a quiet suburb just far enough from the weirdness of Portland but not far enough away to escape the weird government in Salem. Beaverton

A Just-Released Video Game With Lots of Pipe Smoking

It's not getting good reviews, if that matters. Giant Bomb only gave it two out of five stars. I'm playing Diablo III with the new megapatch. No pipes sighted yet in that one.

    What I've been told . . .

The thing is, if you really want to enjoy a nice toasty English blend and you end up tasting peach or cherry with it, you may not be as happy. Maybe you will....

    My Home for Unwanted Pipes

Frennchy11, You've reminded me to check the local antique shop this weekend. I got my first Grabow there, this "Tru Grain": Eight bucks for that one and NO shipping :D They really seem to be good ol' pipes. Not sexy or stylish, but just plain quality. I think I'll go out to the cave and fire...

    My Home for Unwanted Pipes

A lot of times I'll put a bid on an Ebay pipe just because the auction is ending and nobody else has shown any interest. The Medico "Casino" in the back I was not surprised to get. It goes right into the "Sell Later" drawer. The Dr Grabow "Starfire" was a pleasant surprise to win with a $7.00...

What are You Smoking? February 1, 2014

Cracked a 14 oz can of Grandpa's Prince Albert from 1992 and stuffed some of it into one of his refurbished "Bellaire" pipes. Man, that stuff, besides not having much taste, was pretty acrid. So I emptied it out and smoked some "Sherlock's Choice" from The Tinder Box. Not great, but much better...

    Dental Nightmare, Pipe Smoking

I'd take the advice of the professionals and do nothing to endanger the outcome of treatment. There seems to be a lot at stake.

    Introducing Myself

Welcome smoker21. You are already four pipes ahead of where I was at age 18! And yeah, people thought I was strange back them too. Fortunately my girlfriend and future wife was just as strange as me....and still is...I mean we still are.

    Let's Show Off Our Falcons!

Ok, nothing really new here other than the rough one was my grandfather's who died back in 1992. the smooth came in a batch of pipes from eBay. Now they're all cleaned up ready to go into the rotation.

    Fake Dunhill

Is it possible the pipe could have slipped out the backdoor of the Dunhill workshop as a reject? I've read of that happening with other pipe makers. An employee takes the pipe the home and end up in an estate sale somewhere.

    Tobacco is drying my tongue

I'm curious if the drying effect is with any one type of tobacco. I have a couple blends I'm avoiding because of the drying effect. To me it seems more like a coating though. I can only get rid of it with whiskey...lots of whiskey.

Why did the tobacco taste better in one pipe than another?

I'm certainly n not an expert so take this for what it's worth. I would think there are many variables between pipes to be taken into account. The tobacco chamber sizes and dimensions would affect the temperature and rate the tobacco burns thus affecting the qualities of the volatile flavor...

    P&C Pipes Pages

Are some of the issues with site browser specific? I use Chrome with adblock and all I have to do is mouse over the magnifying glass to get view of the pipe. Clicking on the pictures brings up details which is easily closed by clicking on the "X" or clicking on that window brings up an enlarged...
