Essential List of Tools and Cleaners?

I've been using "denicare" which you can get Pipes & Cigars. Amazon has it but it's more expensive there. It doesn't take the place of removing oxidation from the stem using the preferred methods. It's only for shine and protection. I apply the stem polish as the very last step. I rub it on...

    Brand New Old Dr. Grabow

My older Dr Grabows are among my favorite pipes. I'm always on the lookout for more of them.

    Cherry Wood Pipe Questions

It worries me that he's selling an olive wood pipe with a giant split and calling it a "cosmetic flaw". I would think a reputable maker would just trash the pipe. It just doesn't bode well.

    Cherry Wood Pipe Questions

I've got an old cherry wood Ropp (that's probably thirty years old at least) that I smoke regularly. For some reason I chose to reserve it for aromatic blends. I can report that it never gets hot and delivers a nice cool, sweet smoke. I'd say that if you buy a new one, treat it carefully for awhile.

    Choosing a new pipe

I do an eBay search for "estate tobacco pipes" and sort the results by "ending soonest". Then I scan the list for pipes under ten bucks. From there I look at stuff that catches my eye such as an unusual shape or name.

    Smoking is a Sleep Aid?

I think yoru is on to something with meditation as an aid to peaceful sleep. My personal belief is the nicotine sharpens the mind without stimulating the rest of the nervous system to the point where there is not an adrenaline-type reaction. With my pipe I can relax and think things through...

That stem fits nice and snug, too. It could even a take a Grabow filter if I wanted to use one. Oh, and here's the seller supplied "before" picture:

Linkman's Dr. Grabow, Chunky Billiard, So Happy!

Looks great! That's a pipe I'd love to have in my collection.

    Frankenpipe

I saw a Medico Jet Steam pipe on eBay fitted with a Dr Grabow stem. I don't know why I wanted to have it, but at $9.99 I could always use it for a source of briar dust or a spare stem. When it arrived it had a very dark, dirty, pitted and varnished exterior which I removed with acetone and lots...

How Long Would I Have Lived If...

Most of us have been told that saturated fats clog our arteries. Now the journal Annals of Internal Medicine recently reported the link is "tenuous". Think of all the tasteless healthy food we've endured for years laboring under a false assumption.

    Burned My New Peterson Calabash

Wow! I've never seen a bowl so scorched. As others have said, if you can't hold your pipe comfortably in your hand you should put it down for awhile until it cools off, then relight.

Antique Score.... Boys, I've Got My Work Cut Out For Me!

It may be a bit of a challenge to get all the oxidation off that Playboy pipe stem without wearing out the logo. I can hardly wait to see the "post" pics!

Awesome thing Mike Rowe said to a congressman

Usually celebrities appear before a congressional committee for no other reason than they played an afflicted minority in a movie and are therefore an expert in the trials and tribulations of whatever cause they are championing. Mike Rowe is a little different in my estimation. He's actually...

    Trio of Whitehalls

I bought one of these estate Whitehall meerschaum lined pipes a while back and like it so much I won bids for two more. The most recent is the sitter. They are very good everyday pipes, smoke cool and feel good in the hand.

    "Swiss Made" Refurbish

The stamp just looks like SWISS+MADE. Pretty much just like that. Here's another shot in natural light. I stained the rim of the bowl with ebony which upon reflection was a mistake. It looks too much like tar. I'll sand that off sometime. More old pipes coming in this weekend! (I'm still in...
