    18th Century Meerschaum???

It’s the lost pipe of Olaf (Ole) Ewearenütson, first Norwegian to step foot on the shores of the English New World. Deported for stealing herring over the value of 21 shillings (a shitload of shad), he arrived in Philadelphia in April 1, 1723. Together with his wife, Lena, he set up a...

Candy Like Sweet Aromatics Recommendations Please

French, eh? I like HGL from Lane. It was blended for Herman G Lane and is a mix of sweet aromatic and Latakia. Wife approved.

    Pipe Smoking: Hobby? Life Style?

I'm a smoker, or if you prefer, an addict. I have nice pipes and I don't smoke cheap tobacco much, but I smoke multiple bowls a day. Honesty compels me to admit it.

    18th Century Meerschaum???

Gatorlope: Thanks for the sense of humour, but it's honestly not pessimism. Chances of that being an eighteenth century meerschaum are very, very low. It's an interesting pipe and I honestly mean that. I truly believe it's an imitation meerschaum out of a mass retailer back in the day--the...

    18th Century Meerschaum???

I think you'll find that's a massa meerschaum pipe that was sold in their thousands by retailers such as Sears Roebuck back around the turn of the last century. Sometimes they have a faux date carved on them. Or it's a dolphin leg bone. Your choice. Its Liberty Hall.

Well, this place is just a founty-fount of pure knowledge. Dolphin femur.

    American Airfields.

Jay, absolutely no need to apologize. It was a silly mistake and your post made me laugh. We should always take responsibility for our own lapses in good humor, but be very careful in accepting the blame for other’s poor reactions. You didn’t force anybody to act a fool. And I needed a larf...

Smoking more than one type of tobacco in the same pipe

Depends on personality type and tastes, sir. Some people have very fastidious tastes and don’t like the crossover. Some, like me, find it interesting. And some keep spreadsheets of everything they do. There is no “right or wrong.”

No, I smoke it how it comes.

I’d like to see you call a spade a spade. I’m rooting for the spade, though. I think you should know that.

    Broken Pipe Bill Kotyk

Mr. Kotyk was a gentleman in all senses of the world. Knowledgeable beyond belief, and opinionated without arrogance. His presence was always a source of fun and I'll miss him very much. Requiam aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.

    Cleaning an Oversmoked Meerschaum

Sorry, gents, I'm not as active here as I'd like. This was a fun thread, though, and I genuinely thank you all for the help. You convinced me that I am crazy and the pipe is just too heavy for my tastes. I havent boiled it nor put it in the oven for the simple reason that I am married and wish...

    Time to Confess

Traditionally, any time up to the Sanctus. Oh. Sorry. I dont have a cellar. I buy two tins or 5 ounces of bulk a week. Which is also probably traditional.
