    Cleaning an Oversmoked Meerschaum

Well, dont think it's a pressed meer. While I agree with you that I've never seen anything about tar adding to the weight, either, I've never seen anything indicating Peterson made pressed meerschaum pipes, either. I'd be far more likely to believe its African, but even then, good gravy it's a...

    Cleaning an Oversmoked Meerschaum

I'll take a picture tomorrow. Like I said, pretty sure Turkish because it colored fairly evenly, but it's a ton even compared to African meers I own. I'll leave it to experts.

    Cleaning an Oversmoked Meerschaum

Neither. Both of those problems arent new to me. It sounds crazy, but I could swear the bowl itself, the meerschaum, is absolutely saturated with ooze.

    Cleaning an Oversmoked Meerschaum

I've an old Peterson meerschaum from the 1970s I picked up for a song. Scratch and dent special--worn down rim, dented silver band. Problem is it was just oversmoked. It's clearly block from the way it colored and the fact it doesnt have a calcined rim, but it is so heavy with tars it isnt...

OTC Curiousity Got The Best Of Me

You'll be ok. I cant speak for others, but I found once I knew how to smoke, over the counter tobaccos became delightful. Sugar Barrel and Walnut became my daily blend for years, in fact. Prince Albert is good for the soul. I wish you joy of the journey.

Proposed: Hipster millennials are GOOD for pipe smoking

I was an 18 year old fresher aping the manners of a courtly old Forestry professor in 1996 when I picked up the pipe seriously. The term didnt yet exist, but I guarantee most who saw me from a distance laughed. Glass houses for me, gentlemen, and I suspect for many of you.

Thanks for tweaking my heart strings, fellows. Sigh. Ogdens. (Respectfully removes hat).

    True Lakeland and Nice Pipes

I must be unusual. I like the interplay of the ghosts with my next tobacco. But then again, scented Virginia's really punch my ticket. I wouldnt hesitate for a minute to but Dark Flake in a dunhill.

Shelby Foote's Civil War Trilogy...Any Good?

I’m not sure about that comparison. For it to be apt, Sir David would have to be a die hard Labour supporter who blamed everything bad in the natural world On British Colonialism and gave the lion’s share of on air time to prominent anti-Tory Royal Fellows of Asian descent.

    Fred Bass Article Help

This year I only took along one pipe to Tokyo--a very old Andreas Bauer panelled bulldog sort of thing. In twenty years, the meer bug had never bitten me and I only smoked cobs and briars. Well, I've been bitten hard. Mr. Bass seems to be an acknowledged authority, but I can find relatively...

    No Love For Dunhill Blends

I'm glad. In the long run, nobody really has any answers, whether you've been smoking 60 years or since yesterday afternoon. De gustabus and all that. I love the essay and I strongly recommend buying two pipes in a case. That way your wife doesnt object to putting them in her purse and you...

    No Love For Dunhill Blends

To the OP: No disrespect intended. I simply meant that your tastes will change. I've noticed a progression from aromatics to virginia and virginia periques over the years. Some progress into burleys, some dont. I strongly suggest keeping it. You might end up loving it. You might end up...

    No Love For Dunhill Blends

Anybody else ever read “Smoking as a Fine Art” by Milne?. This fellow rather reminds me of it, somehow. In another month, he’ll be ready for his own custom blend.

    St. Bruno Flake impressions

I couldn’t possibly add anything to sablebrush’s post. He hit the nail squarely on its head and drove it home. I once posted a rant about what the Dane’s did to Erinmore Flake. I’ve since calmed down. The problem is that they get the saucing absolutely spot on and then put it on the wrong...

    Meerschaum Pipe Case Lining Durability
