    Coffee Check

We pick up Peet's coffee wherever we can find it, which isn't too hard. Several years ago, in a stroke of good fortune, my wife who's haunted thrift and consignment shops for decades happened to visit a consignment shop just as they were setting out a new item. She knew it was an espresso...

    Danish pipes

That's a nice looking freehand. There are British Ben Wades and Danish Ben Wades. The little prince in the foreground is Brit. Behind it is a Nording freehand, one of those all-too-rare bargain buys on the 'bay. I'm partial to Nordings and used to accumulate their Hunter Series.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

Hermit Tobacco Works Party Blend 2007, Cavendish, Latakia, Virginia, in a Ser Jacopo L2 Canadian. The label is in deplorable condition but it's still worth a light.

    Who Uses Matches?

I don’t have the patience for pipe lighters which either require too much fiddling (Xikar), run out of fuel just when needed (Zippo), or have striking wheels that are too hard to turn (Djeep). I use Swedish Three Star matches. Swan Vestas we’re best, but I just can’t find them anymore.

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

At one time the band was hold plate over sterling silver. Now the gold is wearing off and tarnish is showing through. I don’t have the heart to polish it.

    Brylon?

Mine was long since discarded. Very hot and very heavy.

Advice sought re: Peterson Mark Twain

I’d been on the hunt for a Peterson’s Mark Twain, at a reasonable price, for a long time and was finally able to score one last year. Due to some dings on the sterling silver band and overall heavily-smoked condition, the price was right for me. The pipe is otherwise in great shape and has...

    My Favorite Shape, The Canadian

I'm a Canadian fan. These are two commissions based on the Canadian shape, but with a prince-shape bowl. The bowl was fashioned after an Ashton prince. I had Paul Bonaquisti (he has since added a "c" to his last name, but my pipe was made pre-C) make the natural in his Ruvido finish in 1998...

    Best Aromatics!

I have a tin of Sillem's Black which I dip into now and then. It's not your typical aromatic, for sure; and it's not my idea of an everyday smoke. But I enjoy it a great deal. I think of it the smoker's equivalent of a good-quality port, to be sipped after a fine meal. It's well worth keeping...

    Cup O' Joes?

Great vendor. Outstanding selection. No worries.
