Is there really no current thread for Danish pipes? Do folks here have something against them? This Ben Wade Danish Hand Model 100 pipe will be arriving at my door within a couple of days. I did pay something for it (about 130$) and I’m kind of wondering if Preben Holm likely made this himself? Anyway, I’m excited. I thought I’d show it off though it’s not in my hot hands yet. Danish pipes are great! In design they are traditional with a modern twist to it if we're talking non Freehands. There is a Show us your Danes thread.

Here are mine, allthough not typically the Danish freehand style (which I don't prefer). Neerup is the first (sold as an Egg, but more a bit of a fat Apple to me), Second is a Svendborg (started by Illsted and Tao Nielsen) and third is a danish Stanwell. When PAD hits and I look for a briar pipe my go to is look for Danish estates.

I have Nordings, Johs, and an excellent Bari, a brand of factory pipe of yore. I also have six or so Stanwells which are Danish design now made in Italy, but still Danish in appearance. I see a lot of posts about Danish pipes on here, though there isn't a specific category devoted to them. I'm sort of glad we don't have too many categories, since people often get lost and use the wrong category anyway.

The huge popularity of Danish freehands in the past (seventies and eighties?) caused a lot of lesser renditions of what is a fairy sophisticated design concept. The poor imitations, many not Danish, can be pretty awful, and I think they somewhat diminished the love of freehand pipes. But I have a Johs and Nording version I really love, both gifts, both with plateau.

There is a “Show Off Your Danish Pipes” thread

There are also several threads on Danish pipes - carvers, Stanwells, Neerups etc,

You just have to use the “Search” function
But I think it’s under “Danes”? - which I didn’t think to search for. I just searched Danish. I knew they must be here somewhere!

The Neerup is a particularly fun design!

I love my Neerups, Old Stanwells, Nordings, Coldings, and Eltang. Danish pipes are far from under-appreciated here. I think that English pipes are just more in fashion at the moment, because people are going through their "boring" phase, ha ha.

I love my Neerups, the look, the way they smoke, and the design. My biggest criticism of Neerup is that 3 out of 4 of my Neerups have absolutely no nomenclature on the pipes. With Neerup influencing and making pipes for other brands, I fear that many of Neerup's pipes in the future will just hit the estate market as "no name" pipes. They do have a signature look "for now," but as the other pipe companies are staring to be influenced by Jeppesen, in 10 or so years, it won't be easy to tell.

Old Stanwells were rivals to Dunhills back in their day, and that factory produced not only great designs, but some of the greatest most sought after pipe designers in the world. They are like pieces of history. The new Stans... they may be ok smokers and cheap enough to stay viable in the middle class market, but the designs are becoming more obviously Italian influenced. I don't consider the new ones to be Danish any longer. Nor would I take one if someone offered me one for free.

I find it easier to go to Google.
Type in "Danish pipes reviews" or "Stanwell pipes reviews" and up pops what you're looking for.

That's a nice looking freehand. There are British Ben Wades and Danish Ben Wades. The little prince in the foreground is Brit. Behind it is a Nording freehand, one of those all-too-rare bargain buys on the 'bay. I'm partial to Nordings and used to accumulate their Hunter Series.View attachment 185434
I smoked pipes for a few years and quit for a few years. That time around I didn’t understand the fascination with Danish pipes and I was only into British and Italian pipes. Now I’ve come back to pipe smoking with a real appreciation for the shaping of the Danes. That Nording has a striking stain too.
