Anyone want to share pics of their tobacco cellar?

This is most of it, over 1000 cans + several pounds loose. There are another 75-100 cans stored in other locations.

    Dark Star

Received a can of McClellands Dark Star today. Am getting ready to load my second bowl. It is a really nice smoke. Virginias pressed and aged into a flake. Delicious taste. My only reservation is that it is so moist that it is difficult to light. (They are selling water for the price of...

    Jew's/Juice/Jaw/Mouth Harp or Trump

Talk about overalls and moonshine reminds me of my favorite instrument. The noble cardboard mailing tube. If you have played a trumpet or other brass it is easy. Punch a hole in the metal in one side and insert trumpet mouthpiece. Empty other side. A small one is a soprano. If you can get a 9...

    Thoughts on Lasse?

I have 8 pipes from Lasse. I love 7 of them. Great smokers.

    Finding Pipes On Ebay

May I suggest you search Bruces Cameras and Estate Pipes on Ebay. No junk. (I hope I am allowed to say this).

What do your friends and family think?

I confessed and started smoking in public at age 15. It was in the 1950s. The expected fuss never happened.

New Briar Pipe - No taste?

If I may suggest, smoke it until it gets dirty inside, then it will have a taste.

How Long to Break In a Briar?

Anywhere from one smoke to a few years, depending on what they did to screw it up.

Why Your NEW pipe tastes SO BAD.

If a new briar tastes bad, chances are it is a bad pipe.(Bad taste from stain, wax, staining the air passage or just plain soft briar.) This does not apply to meerschaums, most of which taste bad for quite a while before becoming great smokes.

    Cleaning a brand new pipe?

After breaking in about 250 pipes, I can report no diseases contracted. I rarely clean a pipe except to run 2-3 cleaners through it during the smoke. If it tastes foul, which is very rare, I remove the stem and clean with a strong alcoholic beverage.

    Dunhill experts? Knowledge needed.

I hate to be the sour note in the symphony, but Dunhill shell briars are a poor smoke, compared to any of their smooth pipes. Even the Red Bark and County smoke better. So it doesn't really matter if it is a Dunhill or not.

    Any L'Anatra fans?

Love the duck, but the smoke is disappointing.

    Tobacco Inventory

Finally got around to counting the tobacco cans. There are 1028 in my pipe smoking room. Of the 1028, 209 are Bombay Court, 131 Nightcap, 76- 3 Oaks Syrian, 68 Macbaren Vintage Syrian, 44 Full Balkan Syrian, 69 Frog Morton. These are the largest amounts. Tried a can of the 3 Oaks Syrian, which...

    Avatar/Screen Name

The avatar is a photo of a cross painting I made. It has nails sticking out from all the edges. Just a reminder that they used to nail people to these things.

    Oldest Pipe You Smoke

A Wilke bent apple. Bought it new in 1957 or 58. The only pipe I have left from the 20th century.

    New Avatar

Went to change my avatar, but the system squeezed the picture out of proportion and ruined it. The only picture I could find on my new computer that did not have nudity, was a cluttered snapshot of this painting I did of a cross. So that is me, for now.

Eva Green Smoking A Pipe In The New Tim Burton Film

If there is a weird role, she will find it. One of my favorite actresses, despite the dreadful Penny Dreadful. If you have not seen her in The Dreamers, do not miss it, uncut.

Barclay Rex Closing their 42nd Street Store

I worked there one summer in high school in the 1950s. It was called Petersons. Had a great time, learned a lot. Sorry to see it go. Between the NYC rents and the internet it is surprising that retail tobacconists still exist there.

What Music Are You Listening To? (September 2016)

I generally prefer silence. Some Earl Scruggs is always welcome though.
