    Tobacco “Strength” -What is It?

It's a question well worth asking. Based on what I'm reading, I also wonder if Strength is measure of the overall sensory experience, which incorporates degree of nicotine hit, amount of flavor, degree of harshness of taste, and other qualities such as 'bite' and 'tingle'. If so, I might rate...

Tips for Keeping a Pipe Lit

Relights are fine. Relighting goes hand in hand with slow smoking.

Virginia Blend with the Most Nicotine?

G&H Dark Bird's Eye and Kendal Kentucky have plenty.

    Pipes and Double Edged Razors?

I have thick hair and thin skin. After suffering with double edged razors for years, I went back to Gillette Sensor (double blade cartridge) in an aftermarket handle. If you have thin skin, nothing beats Gillette cartridges for an effortless close comfortable shave. And yes, they are expensive..

    We Want your Reviews...

Its taken a few years, but I've managed to find quite a few G&H and SG blends. The unobtainable item for U.S. customers seems to be the SG plugs. I've tried ordering from Switzerland, with no success. I'm sure these would sell out just as quickly as any of the others if available, so why can...

    Questions About Synjeco

I just received this message from Daniel at Synjeco: "Yes, we received the parcel back, and we don't know why it was returned, on the parcel there is just a label with the mention "Mail Service Suspended, return to sender". Please let us know, how we should proceed, we can refund you or try to...

    Questions About Synjeco

I recently placed an order with them. Bank transfer. Here's the tracking history: October 14 departed Zurich Switzerland, October 16 arrived in Jamaica New York, December 4 processed through Jamaica facility, December 7 departed Jamaica facility, December 20 departed United States, December 22...

    The Past

This is off the topic somewhat, but I've been reading about the teachings of Bankei, a Buddhist teacher in 17th century Japan. His teaching is very simple. Originally, we come into this world without thoughts, such as regret for the past, or anxiety for the future. Having thoughts and...

    Esoterica Tobacco

That is kind of gross, especially the $435 offer for a bag of Penzance. But at least its labeled 'Consignment tin owned by 3rd party seller'. Hats off to PipeStud for not gouging like this.

    Esoterica Tobacco

3 or 4 years. The tins list Arango as the US importer, but there's nothing about exclusivity.

    Esoterica Tobacco

My tins and bags of Esoterica do not say this.

    Esoterica Tobacco

Ok, Esoterica is still available in the U.S., albeit rarely and in limited quantities. But Germains seems to have disappeared completely. On the other hand, I'm not sure its entirely accurate to say that Germains is the UK offering and Esoterica the export offering.

    Esoterica Tobacco

My understanding is that several B&M retailers are willing to trade Esoterica for Rolex. A stainless steel Daytona should be worth several large bags of Stonehaven these days.

    Esoterica Tobacco

It may be worth noting that the parent company JF Germain is no longer interested in selling their tobaccos to the West. Its all going to Asia, just like Algerian briar.

Don't Look Up... Question for Everyone

Don't Look Up... Question for Everyone

Its a good film- made a strong impression on me. My feeling is that we are all relatively uninformed, in a cosmic sense: Who are we, Where are are we going? Films like this give us the opportunity to see the bigger picture, and break us out of our constrained patterns of thinking.

    Appearance & Pipe Smoking

I care a lot about how the pipe looks and how I look. But I don't care at all how I look with the pipe in my mouth. I would have to assume that a grown man indulging an oral fixation looks kind of ridiculous in this day and age.

    Bamboo

Bamboo is light relative to briar, which is nice if its a pipe with a long shank. Bamboo is extremely strong, and also low maintenance in terms of keeping it looking good. It can be very handsome in the hands of the right maker. Its a great material for pipes.
