Will Pipe Smoking Ever be Mainstream Again?

Resellers probably. Pipe collecting seems to be going strong at the moment.

    Alcohol & Tongue Bite

Alcohol and pipe smoking are not a great combination. Alcohol strips protection from delicate mucous membranes, increasing the risk of thermal and chemical burn. As well, it increases exposure of the oral mucosa to carcinogens in burning tobacco. If you were to question people with a history...

Will Pipe Smoking Ever be Mainstream Again?

Things do tend to pass away when something better comes along. But I'm not aware of anything that could be considered superior to putting flame to a tobacco leaf.

Will Pipe Smoking Ever be Mainstream Again?

Things tend to cycle. If we are near the nadir of tobacco acceptance now, maybe there will be some partial recovery in the future. People tend to smoke pipes in a more safety-conscious way now, which may help to facilitate this. A comparable example might be the increasing acceptance of...

Recommendations for Low Harshness High Nicotine Blends

G&H Kendal Kentucky, Dunhill Royal Yacht. Mild taste, plenty of nicotine.

    My Randy Wiley Collection.

Very nice pipes. I believe the proper usage is 'rustication'. I only mention it because it makes me happy me to catch something before our esteemed moderator.

    Questions About Synjeco

Its a good point, I'll ask Daniel if he might want to try again.

    Questions About Synjeco

Daniel is in the process of refunding my payment. He doesn't want to try to resend it. He is wondering why it works sometimes but not other times, which I think is a very reasonable question. Reading between the lines I doubt that he is going to be shipping the the US for the time being, but I...

    SAT Question

Hard to find, but Reiner Long Golden Flake is a 'pure'-tasting, Virginia-forward blend with a lot of sweetness and a touch of citrus.

Estervals and Shipping to the US

On a related note, Snyjeco has elected to refund my purchase price for some tobacco I ordered from them, rather than try try to reship the tobacco. I ordered from them last year, and after hitting US customs, the package was returned.

    Nostalgia for Vintage Tobacco

Judging from the responses, it probably makes little sense to go vintage. Unless the tobaccos that are being chased are no longer in production, or are currently being made by a different blender.

    Nostalgia for Vintage Tobacco

I'm mainly a Virginia smoker, and I've been impressed with some of the recent Cornell and Diehl offerings. It will be interesting to see how they smoke ten years from now.

    Nostalgia for Vintage Tobacco

Your point is well taken. The reason I ask is that we have all have access to older tins, but the price is high. Alternatively, I could just try to buy the best tobaccos currently produced and cellar them. Even a mediocre blend will improve with age, but I doubt that it will transform into...

    Nostalgia for Vintage Tobacco

Title edited. Please understand Rule 9! - jpm I think this was raised recently, but I want to revisit it from a slightly different angle. The question is kind of directed towards senior smokers who have some recollection of how fresh tobaccos tasted in previous decades. Is it possible to say...

    Seeking Exceptional Bourbons

Weller 12 year old is classic, perfectly balanced, if not overly complex. Has a lot in common with Pappy (same distillery, same mashbill), but far cheaper.

    Alternative to RDF Besides Stonehaven.

RDF, ODF, I guess this thread is only for insiders. Have pity for the poor ignorant pipe enthusiasts who aren't in on the tobacco-related acronyms.

    Too Hot & Goes Out

I agree. I would only add that packing too tightly can also lead to an overheated bowl, due to increased puffing in an effort to keep the ember lit.
