    The Lakeland Ghost

Great thread. The Lakeland ghost is the worst of its kind in my opinion. In the past, I just had to smoke them out which took considerably longer than other types of ghosting. I had not read about the vinegar treatment, thank you all. I will try this on my latest Lakeland estates.

    G.L. Pease Blends

Temple Bar is well represented in my cellar. I enjoy Gas Light occasionally and aged Abington as well.

    Pipes from E-bay or not

I have over 100 pipes, most from Ebay. Some were outstanding values for what I received. Others, not so much. Actual cases where I felt deceived, one and that was very recent. The guidance I could offer would be to continue to educate yourself, know what you are looking for and what price range...

Wow, now I really feel "lame", as my daughter would say. I'm just trying to hit 100. Congratulations MSO!

Going Back to Blends You Didn't Like

The most surprising tobacco recently was GLP Abington. If I don't like a blend, I jar it and set it aside for a future date. Abington I forgot/misplaced in my cellar and when rediscovered had several years on it. Turned out wonderfully. I would say Balkan Sobranie-esk.

    Look CAREFULLY Before You Leap

Thank you for the notice. I will check my three tins from that era. I had four and opened one Bohemian Scandal about two years ago. It was in fine shape. It's a special occasion smoke so I still have quite a bit left. I had an old tin of Sutliff #5 with the silver bottom and jarred it. Glad I...

    Change is Good

I really wish I could settle on a handful of tobacco's and stick with them. I simply cannot do it. I guess that is what makes this hobby so much fun and fasinating. I like them all. Sometimes it's an aromatic. Other times it's a latakia flake. Here lately though the vaper's have been hitting me...

    Need Some New Aromatics???

From a previous post. If you want something off the beaten path, try "Holy Smoke" from Oxmore Smoke Shop in Louisville, KY. They have a web page but this tobacco is not listed, so I just call it in. 502-426-4706. There are very few reviews at http://www.tobaccoreviews.com however, what is there...

    Disinfecting Estate Pipes

Walker Pipe Repair is great and do most of my work. I own over 100 pipes, 90 of them estates and many cleaned up myself, I only use Everclear to disinfect, Murphy’s oil soap and a tooth brush to clean the outside and Zymol detail to polish it up.

Guess What? You Actually Don't Like the Tobaccos You THINK You Do.

Great thread George and I agree. I have a mishmash of everything, briar, clay, meerschaum, cobs and 6mm/9mm briars. Tobacco can taste completely different from one material to the next. For my own blending, I use the clays as a baseline before moving to a briar. In addition, if I load a briar...

    Home Blending Question Regarding Moisture

Mawnanmiff, if you don’t mind sharing, what were the percentages for that mixture of Christmas Cheer and perique? I recently got an eight ton press rigged up and would like to try some recipes other than my own. My first “puck” came out wonderfully for my tastes.

    Good Tobacco Shop in Wichita?

The Humidor Cigars and Lounge. I was there last week..not so much a pipe place but they did have a meager selection of tobacco and Peterson pipes. Very friendly personnel with an excellent lounge full of great people. I bought a few tins and some cleaners then spent two hours in the lounge...
