    Help for Newbie

And don’t forget to introduce yourself in the new member thread. It’s highly recommended, and the best way to get your initial introduction to the many very experienced pipe smokers on the forums, and you’ll also meet a lot of newer smokers like yourself. There’s also a few of us intermediate...

    Help for Newbie

In my experience, which is minuscule compared to many on here considering I’ve been smoking a pipe for not much over a decade, I like my couple of Cherrywood pipes and they smoke very well. Coolness has more to do with pipe design and your smoking cadence than anything. Clay pipes tend to get...

    Help for Newbie

It’s different in shape than most of the ones on my old Kaywoodies, but it looks like a piece of technology called a stinger. It’s meant to keep moisture out of the stem and your mouth. Some come out, and some are permanent. They are the enemy of all pipe cleaners and many pipe smokers. If it...

Whose Pipes do You Have the Most of?

I'm actually getting kind of desperate to get my first Castello. I love that Sea Rock finish, but I've not yet found a available shape that has called out to me. Seen plenty of Castellos I loved, but either they weren't for sale or someone beat me to it. Same thing has kept me from picking up my...

Whose Pipes do You Have the Most of?

My own assortment of pipes is small; like 22 pipes. But I love vintage Kaywoodies and have 5 of them that all predate 1940.

    Relighting a Half-smoked Bowl.

Lots of good advice above. I very much agree with running a pipe cleaner through for moisture. I don’t usually have an issue with relights and have had a bowl wait overnight and still taste great. Only thing I’d add is to make sure to give it a few puffs over a few minutes to let the tobacco...

    Cobs and Briars

I do love my cobs, though I smoke my briars a little more frequently. Probably around a 60/40 split. I had this problem with only one of my cobs, and it was a smaller bowl that had no hardwood plug in the bottom. Bowl would expand until it started cracking along the kernel lines. Filled them in...

Why Did you Start Smoking a Pipe, and Why Do You Still?

I think it has something to do with the smell and the ritual of it. Was surrounded by cigarette smokers growing up. Always hated the smell. Still do. Never smoked a cigarette either. Grabbed my first cigar at 18 to celebrate graduation with some friends. Loved the flavor. Had one relative that...

    Did You Smoke on I.P.S.D.?

Yup. Was up at midnight so I packed a bowl of Bayou Morning in an old estate Hardcastle of mine and rung in the holiday proper like.

I.P.S.D. Sales - How dysfunctional Were You?

Full box of PS luxury navy flake, 2 tins each of Union Square, Escudo, Davidoff Flake Medallions, Chenet’s Cake, Sutliff Crumble Kake #3, and a full 8oz tin of Bayou Morning Flake. Also got an estate Bjarne delivered yesterday. All in all, not bad. I actually held back a bit because I’m...

Tips for Keeping a Pipe Lit

I smoke a lot of flake tobaccos, and I find drying them out for 30-60 minutes before I rub out and pack gives me a fairly consistent smoke. If I’m smoking the occasional aromatic, then I’ll let dry longer and almost exclusively use a cob to keep the moisture manageable.
