    When I started smoking a pipe 15 years ago I smoked condor. I used to think it was a big beast of a tobacco. I've given it it a rest for 12 years and bought a pouch the other day, now it seems utterly feeble and lacking in any nicotine at all. Is it me, the baccy, both ? don't know.

    Pipes do not gurgle, but some smokers cause them to. If you don't want the pipe to gurgle, then set yourself a target of smoking without gurgling. Teach yourself, and don't listen to any advice, May not take you all that long. Good luck.

    Love the stuff. I load up a group five bowl, and go at it a bit more more than I usually would. That cosy, warm headed, nicotine hit puts me in a really good mood of an evening. The only reason I smoke is for nicotine, if there's flavour as well, that's a bonus.

    In my teens I went through a stage for a few months when all I had was the clothes on my back and I lived in a cave. I had to play cave tetris with all the chicks that kept coming round. Plus they would bring me food and cigarettes.

    10 to 15 minutes is good. Longer than that and you might as well throw it in the trash. YMMV By the way the rum in that blend weakens the effects of the nicotine and ruins the flavour of the tobacco. The same tobacco without the rum is a lot better IMO.

    I use Colibri or Newport. Occasionally I inspect my lighter with a x10 watchmakers loupe. No sign of any build up at all, nothing to clean, perfect.

    You say the pipe is pretty new, but you don't say whether you purchased it from new. If it's an estate pipe, the problem may have been already there, and the previous owner filled it up with pipe mud, which has come loose. Just a possibility that's all.

    The method I use stops people from getting anywhere near my pipes ! Nose oil rubbed in in with a finger, and an occasional firm wipe with a paper towel.

    Here in the UK my cellar is about 80% Gawith blends. it's damn fine tobacco and easily available. The other 20% is Capstan blue and St Bruno.
