Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

Thank you, I am doing good so far !! I've been busy selling my pipes on Ebay and have sold over 100 of them and gave away quite a few more pipes and most of my bulk tobacco. Getting down toward the bottom of the barrel--the main thing left to sell is my big Grabow display--which may prove to be...

    Latest Pipe Holder

Mother Nature started it,I used a 1/2" barrel sanded in a Dremel to shape and make it a bit larger. Finished off with hand sanding.

Mystery Pipe Made of Mystery Wood - Pics

Looks to me to be a WW2 era pipe made of Mt. Laurel. Can't tell you who made but several companies used Mt. Laurel and Manzanita during WW2. The grain on your pipe looks a lot like a Smokemaster(Briarcraft) that I had until recently. Mt. Laurel is lighter and less dense than briar and the...

Don't see many Filt-O-Corks and I don't recall ever seeing one in that shape ! Linkman did make a few shapes with scalloped type rims. Nice score !

    Latest Pipe Holder

Glad you like that chunk of firewood James ! It is either Tulip Poplar or Mimosa, neither of which is a good firewood but it was given to me so I burnt it. I've found several such pieces when splitting wood for the fireplace and made several stands that I either sold or gave away. I believe that...

The curse of the frozen Kaywoodie stingers

Did you get the 600 apart? I have come across several pipes with aluminum threaded connectors that have more or less welded the two parts together, not from tar build but from oxidation of the aluminum parts. Soaking with alcohol or some type of oil generally will not work. The easiest way I've...

    Dr. Grabow Viking

Viking stems are 1 1/2" long. Late models have an inlaid spade.early pipes do not have a spade--mine doesn't anyway.

    Dr. Grabow Viking

jacks6, here's a couple of pics of an early 1st Gen, and a 2nd Gen. Viking. The one with the white bowl is the early 1st gen. Viking. The 2nd gen. pipes were available in bent or straight. 2nd gen.pipes are stamped Dr. Grabow. There is a third version of the Viking called "Viking Jr." which is...

    Dr. Grabow Viking

It sounds like you have a "1st generation" Viking. They were not stamped Dr. Grabow-just Viking and a patent number.

    Dr. Grabow Viking

I lurk once in a while just to see what you guys are to ! While I have been trying to sell of my collection I just bought some Viking bowls from a friend who came in from Vegas to visit for a while. I have 13 new-never smoked bowls to sell. $15.00 each shipped. PM me with an email address and...

    Hasta La Vista Gents.

A friend urged me a year or so back to make pens and even sent me a couple of kits. I made one, which turned out fairly well. I have bought a few of the tools used for pen making but really need a wood lathe. Turning pens on a small metal lathe is a PITA !

Scrooge is good people ! He and I have been in contact not only here but elsewhere and he has been very supportive ! Over the last 10 years of being on the various forums I have "met" a good many like James. I do believe,as has been stated before, that pipers are generally a cut above.

    Hasta La Vista Gents.

Thanks Jim for plugging my website and Etsy store. Forgot to mention that most of the pipes I have listed on Etsy are not mine. They belong to an old friend who is downsizing and cannot sell them himself. Probably won't list my stuff on my website. Will either be listed On Ebag or the Grabow...

    Hasta La Vista Gents.

Thanks guys,I appreciate your sentiments, comments and support ! I have COPD and should have quit smoking many years ago. 50 years of smoking, cigarettes for 40 of them have caught up with me. If I thought I could quit and keep the pipes and not smoke them I would but if they are here-I will...

    Hasta La Vista Gents.

I've come to the conclusion that if I want to keep breathing I need to quit smoking. In order to do that I will sell off most of my collection. Those I don't sell will be locked up somewhere so I can't get to them. I've already started the process, which will most likely take a few months--I'm...

    My Magnetic Knife Rack...erm...Pipe Stand!

Nice piece ! I like the magnetic pipe racks and the way the pipes sit on them. After seeing some of Neal Yarms work I made one from some scrap lumber I had laying around.

    Even my dog knows...

I believe that dogs like to follow a routine. I have a female Corgi mix that is by my side almost 24 hours a day. She knows my routine as well as I do. First thing every morning when I get up she knows it's time to go out. When she comes back in she leads me upstairs to the kitchen for...
