Ran Into A Guy Smoking a Pipe

There's at least a couple of Kiwis here. Have you not yet met @Ahi Ka ?

What Did I Do to My Mouth?

Yes your mouth has just been conditioned by the smoke. Yay! Waking with a bad taste in your mouth? Could that be because you were smoking stronger blends back then, stronger than what you're smoking now?

    Vintage Pipes

Welcome to the forum. Love my old antique pipes. A 100+yo German pipe shop closed that had a heap of NOS {new old stock} pipes, some that were over 100yo. I bought quite a few from ebay auctions. One example; A 1920-30s Dobbelmann Santa-Filter Optima 500 The pipe on the bottom left looks to...

    Is it aromatic?

Whenever I read 'floral' in a description, I would think yuck, equating it to grannies soaps and perfumes. Recently I tried Sutliff Balkan Sobranie Match for the first time. As soon as I lit up a bowl I instantly realised what floral actually meant when pertaining to certain Oriental leaf...

What tobacco has the most dramatic change after cellaring?

That's good to hear. I've got a large jar behind all my other blends, that must be at least 5yo by now.

Ran Into A Guy Smoking a Pipe

I'm unable to recall seeing another pipe smoker in public in recent times. A few years ago I gifted a mate a pipe to get him off cigarettes. [And we are gently encouraging a mutual friend to make the switch to a pipe] We regularly enjoy a bowl together. Although he's not as interested in...

Who Smokes Tiny Briar Pipes? Resting Them?

I've got several small briars. This Bruyere Garantie [no brand] Rhodesian is one. A very good smoker. I've got several 60s French Skippy pipes like this little Skippy Prince Paneled Bulldog [my favourite] And I've got a Dr Plumb Dinky [but forgot to save the pic] and a bent Dr Grabow Duke...

Cellaring: How Much is Too Much?

Although I tend to be a 'glass half full' kinda guy, who's grateful for what I have rather than what I don't, there are times when I'm kinda jealous of those who can buy whatever blends they'd like at reasonable cost, tinned blends in-particular. Due to my situation I only buy bulk blends...

    Velvet tobacco

It's nice that you've found an 'all day' blend that suits your tastes. The fact that it's an OTC blend is a bonus. I'd really like to try Velvet and it would be nice to have another really mild blend for a morning smoke with my morning mugs of tea so I had the choice between a Burley blend and...

    Velvet tobacco

Up until I found the internet and pipe forums I'd not ever heard of much less seen an OTC Burley codger blend. Since then I've tried Carter Hall, Prince Albert and Sir Walter Raleigh. All fine blends that I could smoke all day. Then I bought some Granger from SunriseBoy. Due to my...

Anyone know anything about this pipe

Oh I know exactly what that is; it's called a Calabash. Yes, you are most welcome Ben. puffy

    Christmas

Saint Nicholas is well known for being a jolly fellow and I know exactly why. What else would he have loaded in his pipe other than some nice tasty buds? Shit, anyone who dealt with so many children would need something to get him through his day to maintain his pleasant countenance.

    Christmas

Just a few days ago I was tidying up my 'cellar', jarring blends that were in bags, when I came across a 1lb bag of 5yo C&D Izmir Turkish. So I loaded one of my small pipes just so I got a feel for the flavours [It was bought to mix with homegrown leaf] It wasn't too bad; I smoked the whole bowl.

    Christmas

"After being downwind of nine reindeer all night" would he even notice what was in his pipe? Yes, even Granger has a chance of being less offensive after that experience.

    THE SHORT, SHORT SMOKE.

My only tin of Consummate Gentleman left a lasting impression. It was the first English blend that I really enjoyed straight from the tin. [At the time Latakia was new to me] Adding a slower burning tobacco that would not alter the taste too much came to mind also. From my stash I'd choose a...

    THE SHORT, SHORT SMOKE.

Tobacco enemas??? That you "enjoy" for "at least an hour"??? Man, each to their own and all that but I'm not touching this one with a 10' barge pole.

    Sad News, Harris Has Passed

Considering that Harris had very good taste in music; one of his last posts he was listening to Physical Graffiti. [Anyone who does not appreciate Led Zeppelin . . . well all I can say is that one can only hope that life improves for them, the poor bastards] Wish I knew how to upload a youtube...

    Sad News, Harris Has Passed

Harris passed over peacefully in his sleep? Hope you all realise the significance of such a passing. Please excuse my indulgence but I feel the need to share something that I have not revealed on this forum previously but I'm a clearer of negative entities. [Religious people call me Exorcist...

    Pipes With Bamboo Shanks?

My crappy unsmoked Chinese Road Town Bamboo stem briar self destructed for no particle reason. But that probably had more to do with shoddy material and poor craftmanship than the bamboo itself. The bamboo bongs that my mates and I made in our youth all performed really well if that's any help.

How long should this bowl last?

Maybe lighting up is the start of the problem. Some of my larger bowls take a bit of work to get fully lit. I know when I've gone too far when it doesn't taste so good when I get puffing. Rather than getting to that point where the pipe is too hot, with those pipes I'll do the false light...
