    Tom Eltang - I Don’t Give A!

Exactly. I don't have little ones, but with a wife who is in a high risk category for this virus, alone time in the house is pretty much non-existent these days. And while I'm aware that you are able to smoke in your house, that's not an option for me, so my evening smokes on the patio are a...

    Seeking Cleaning/Upkeep Advice

Welcome to the hobby and the forum! I grew up in north Portland, and have fond memories of spending time in Rich's downtown once I was of age. Is the stem discolored, or still shiny black? If it's still a nice shiny black it's likely not oxidized, and probably just needs a deep cleaning...

    Tom Eltang - I Don’t Give A!

I'm with you. A bowl with a friend (or three) every now and then is a nice change of pace, but for me, a big part of the enjoyment of the pipe is the opportunity for alone time.

    Unusual Or Strange Occupations.

Well, most organs have 16' pipes, which speak at 64 hz at low C. It's one of the standard sizes. Larger instruments will have 32' pipes, which speak at 32 hz (the organ I play at my current position has two electronic 32 foot stops). There are exactly two organs in the world with 64' pipes...

    Unusual Or Strange Occupations.

Ruffatti makes very fine instruments indeed. As for bombast pipes, I'm not sure what you mean. There is something called a "Bombarde," which refers to a big, loud chorus reed that usually speaks at the 8' or 16' pitch. Some organs also have horizontal reed pipes, which we call "En Chamade."...

    Happy Birthday Edwin Hubble (1889-1953)

One of the greats, for sure. It's a shame that he died before the Nobel Committee began awarding the Nobel prize to Astronomers. It's fascinating to read about his discoveries in the 20s and the battle he had convincing some of his older, more established colleagues.

This Time Of Year Kinda Sucks

It’s terrible. Just terrible. In fact, I spent last night crying through my bowl of Rhythm and Blues. It was really hard keeping the tobacco lit with my tears of deep deep sorrow dripping on it (just wait til my wife sees the bank statement!).

    Suggest Burleys To Me

My go-to Burley Blends (as someone who is generally a non-Burley smoker) are: Pegasus MacBaren Symphony and Burley Flake Watch City Slices and Deluxe Crumb Cut Ken Byron Mycroft (which was released like once earlier this year, not sure if he's planning on releasing it again.)

***What Are You Smoking, November 2020?***

Love the pipe, Steven! Hope you enjoyed the Embarcadero. Also, considering that it's only a few miles from your place, it might be worth smoking your next bowl of that blend on a walk down...the Embarcadero!

***What Are You Smoking, November 2020?***

Just enjoyed my first bowl of Watch City Deluxe Crumb Cut in a Peterson Aran straight apple. I'm not much of a Burley guy, but this and WC Slices are probably my favorites of the genre. Very tasty!

    Hello From Long Island

Retired Army man? Nice country down there. The Kartchner Caverns tours are one of our standard places to take out-of-town guests. Love the Huachucas. Love the Sonoita/Elgin wine country.

    Hello From Long Island

Welcome to the forums from sunny Tucson, Arizona. Haven't spent a ton of time on Long Island, but I did play Bethpage Black a number of years ago when my brother was living in NYC.

Mac Baren HH Pure Virginia at 5 Years

I have no idea. All I know is that he has been very generous with a number of forum members over the years, and I am fortunate to have benefited from his generosity.

    Fantastic Drink/Tobacco Pairing

Last night, I had a bowl of Rouxgaroux and a glass of XO Cognac. It was a fantastic combination!

Sutliff: Cringle Flake 2020 is Out

If I'm not mistaken, the blends Watch City produces rely on Sutliff for a primary source of blending components, and I believe their crumble cakes (Old Dominion, Watch City Slices, etc.), which are very fine blends indeed, are entirely produced by Sutliff, to Ernie Q's specifications. I also...

Enjoying some Watch City Rouxgaroux in a two dot Sasieni on this beautiful fall afternoon in Arizona.

Sutliff: Cringle Flake 2020 is Out

Haha! Me too. Although given the enabling I've helped you with recently, I may have to be brought in as a material witness in your divorce trial. "I cannot tell a lie. I did suggest those Rattray's tobaccos to @hairvise"

Sutliff: Cringle Flake 2020 is Out

So one thing that really attracted me to this blends is the aged perique. Does anyone know if it's the same perique that Cornell and Diehl used in their special releases this year (XX Flake, XX Flake Dark, and CRF w/ Perique)?

Anyone See Shows At Winterland In San Francisco?

I wish. Many of my favorite Grateful Dead shows were performed there over the years, but most of them happened before I was born. Legendary venue for sure! Also good to see a few other deadheads on the forum! I'm a late bloomer. Came to the band after Jerry died, and through Phish (sorry...

Sutliff: Cringle Flake 2020 is Out

This thread title is accurate in many ways. Yes, cringe flake is “out” as in released, but by now it’s also literally sold “out” at most online merchants.
