    Holiday Tobaccos

Nice! Marlin flake is my #1 cellared Rattrays blend. It’s the best of the three Va/Per blends, IMO, although HOTW and Old Gowrie are good as well.

    Holiday Tobaccos

This year, I've picked up: Cringle Flake 2020 WCC Double Barrel KBV Festivus GT KBV Festivus Pudding And my Secret Santa gave me a tin of Corn Cob Pipe (and a button nose). I've been very happy with all of the ones I've tried so far.

    Unusual Or Strange Occupations.

Makes me wonder what sort of experience one would look for in that field. “Well, I’ve never done this specific job before, but I do have a lot of experience with cleaning up homicide scenes”. Interviewer: (Checks background check)

How Many Blends In Your Rotation

I have a lot of "open" jars. I have a somewhat serious case of pipe ADHD, and when you combine that with the fact that I bought a lot of bulk when I was first getting into pipes, that means a lot of open blends. I do sample widely, though, and if I have anything that could be called a...

    Unusual Or Strange Occupations.

Scientists have done a number of studies into this, and it turns out that our ability to perceive super low frequencies is attributable to sensory perception in both the ears and in other areas of the body. Apparently we can't even really feel frequencies below the hearing threshold, however...

    Unusual Or Strange Occupations.

LOL! Did you go to 4th Presbyterian in Chicago? AFAIK that's the largest in the midwest. It's a landmark Aeolian-Skinner, the best of the classic American builders (They've been out of business since the 70s). Of course, just like with other, ahem, "organs", size is only part of the story...

    New Escudo

I don’t think I’ve ever had old Escudo. I’ve had a couple of tins dated 2017, and while they were good they certainly didn’t bowl me over enough to warrant stocking up. Based on the current production, there are many better (and better value) VaPers out there, IMO.

    Dark Fired Kentucky

I did not like ODF the first time I tried it but recently gave it a second chance and finally got what everyone else has been saying about it. Very tasty! I found it to be a little one-dimensional, but that one note is a fantastic one. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Savinelli Doblone...

    The (Un)Official Secret Santa 2020!

Oh God! And it's an addictive chemical! What do I do? I think I'll light it on fire. That should take care of it, right?

    The (Un)Official Secret Santa 2020!

Mine is boxed and ready, and will go out first thing tomorrow! Meanwhile, I got impatient (I’m TERRIBLE with waiting for things like this) and opened the box that arrived last week. My SS made great choices! 4 tins, only one of which I’ve smoked before (the 2020 cringle flake). Va Perique...

Any Idea When the Next GH and Co Drop Will Be?

I'd like to stock up on: Bosun Cut Plug Sweet Maple Twist Cherry Vanilla Flake Brown Flake Scented And I'd like to try: Ennerdale Grasmere Rum Flake Then you'd better buy in bulk! Although I have heard that if you take the tobacco out of the green tin the menthol flavoring goes away pretty...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2020?***

Currently finishing up a bowl of 6 yr old Sam Gawith St. James Flake in a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Deerstalker. It's really interesting to smoke this stuff relatively fresh and then with some age on it as well. It's really fantastic either way. Winter has finally come to Southern AZ, and I'm...

Any Idea When the Next GH and Co Drop Will Be?

That seems about right. The last one came at the end of January 2020. Setting an alert on my phone right now. You'd better be right!

That Favorite Uncle That We've All Had

Truly sorry to hear this, Beef. Just terrible to be going through this at this particular point in our history, as well. I grew up pretty far from the extended family, but I do have some great memories from our trips down south, especially when we visited my uncle's camp on a Bayou in the...

Any Idea When the Next GH and Co Drop Will Be?

It has been something like 11 months since the last major Gawith, Hoggarth, and Co drop. Having never tried these tobaccos, I was lucky enough to score some Bosun Cut Plug, Coniston Cut Plug, as well as Dark Flake and a couple of others back in January, and really enjoyed pretty much everything...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2020?***

I always forget to post during the day, so here was the line up today: Watch City 558 in a Tsuge Tokyo sitter while I was working on a job application this afternoon. KBV The Dread Planet in a Chris Morgan Blackjack bent bulldog while walking the dogs with the wife. And now I'm enjoying a...

Business Must Be Boomin' at Watch City Cigars

This was a tricky one for me. I was on a day trip with the wife and had to make sure she was driving at noon on Wednesday so I could make the purchase with my phone. I was lucky to have cell coverage at the correct time as well, as we were in the middle of nowhere Southern AZ (took a day trip...

    Tobacco is Like...

Well based on your analogy, I’d say there’s a number of us here who smoke a veritable Kama Sutra of blends! I think it’s a lot like food. There are infinite variations on flavor and texture in the human diet, particularly world wide. Tobacco blends are similar in that you can take the same...

Congrats! 55 years is quite an accomplishment! I've been married to mine for 12 years and it sometimes feels like an accomplishment! Here's to many more happy years together!

The After Midnight Club Redux 2020

To be honest, I've never tried the flake. When I bought this I was looking for well reviewed tobaccos that were available in bulk, in order to try more and spend less. According to @jiminks, the ready rubbed is nearly identical to the flake, in terms of flavor. I can say, however, that the...
