    Broken Pipe Jack Savlan

Sorry for the loss of your friend, Dave. It's never easy losing a friend. Thanks for remembering him here, and may he rest in peace!

    Hello from Los Angeles, CA

No doubt about it! We were lucky the prior week when everyone to the east was cooking, but yeah, the heat has finally caught up with us! Now it's 3 solid months of 90s and 100s...but luckily, we have friends with pools!

    Filter or Non-filter Pipes? Confused.

Except for one Molina bent, all my pipes take 6mm. I mostly use paper (Medico) as they seem to absorb well but change the draw the least. For wetter tobacco I think I prefer the charcoal filters. For that Molina, I have some balsa inserts that do well. I'm always surprised by how much...

    Filter or Non-filter Pipes? Confused.

You may want to try a cob that takes a 6 mm filter, and buy yourself a few different types of filters to see what works for you. There are 4 basic types: paper, charcoal, Meer chips, and balsa. You can also smoke this cob without any filter. This would be an inexpensive way to get know your way...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

I had another cheapo tonight, a Phillies Titan. It was OK, but I don't think I'll be buying any more of them.

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

A Por Larrañaga that I smoked in Mexico in the 90s was absolutely the best cigar I have ever had. It was a lonsdale I think. I wish I had pickled up a box of those but I was traveling and only grabbed two along with various others.

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

I seek out Muenster for sandwiches, along with Brick and Havarti.

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

Man, so many good cheeses out there! I love aged Irish cheddar and Iberico for snacking. Havarti for sandwiches. Can't make a proper gratin without gruyere or Emmenthaler. Pecorino as a finisher for pasta. Warm chevre on a salad of greens and beets is fantastic. Plymouth cheese, a raw milk...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

A Swisher Sweets slim. This has become my favorite cheap cigar. It has a solid, though mild, straight tobacco flavor with that nip of sweetness in the wrapper, of course. Good for an easy half hour smoke.

What Are You Drinking? May 2024

Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat. It goes great with the Swisher Sweets slim I'm currently smoking.

    Irish Flake Match from Bulks!

I was wondering if GH Brown Twist had been considered, as it's nic potent and Virginia, but not flavored other than the fired component. I realize it's not all that cheap, either.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

I'm smoking some Coniston cut plug in my favorite Savinelli Punto Oro zulu. Pretty much perfect!

What Are You Drinking? May 2024

A boulevardier, made with some Uncle Nearest rye. Delightful.

Up with What are You Lighting ?

Vertigo Puffer in blue. Adjustable soft butane flame, refillable, functional tools. I must have gotten a good one, as it's never given me any problems.

    Coffee Aromatics

If you want something a little farther out there, you might consider Voodoo Queen.

    Storing Italian Dry Cigars

I have no experience with putting them in a humidor, but I suppose it depends on how humid you keep your humidor. Toscanos are meant to be stored dry. I find them to be wrapped pretty tightly and are often a firm draw even when dry; I'd guess that could become problematic if stored in a humidor...

Best VaPer Straight From the Tin

+1 on the Sutliff 1849. I've been dipping from a 3 y/o tin lately and it's been wonderful tasting and very well-behaved.

    Smelling Pipe Tobacco

I find I do this particularly with Lakelands. They just smell so damned good to me!!

    The Five Families

I have a Savinelli Punto Oro 404 that was my second ever pipe purchase, and it remains among my favorites. I also have a Molina bent billiard that smokes great and is really comfortable for its size. We don't hear much about Molinas, but they're made at the old Rossi factory and are another...
