    Tobacco Log Book

A log book, or journal will be of great value in the years to come. It's surprising how much a person can forget as the years pass by. Don't ask how I know this. In five, ten, fifteen years, you'll spend many rewarding hours reading thru some of your old pipe and tobacco comments and...

    That’s Not A Burnout

OK...it was hard to tell. Too bad the briar was so soft. I hope it doesn't get worse. Good luck.

    That’s Not A Burnout

It could be soft briar, but hat looks more like a gouged cake layer. Easy to fix. Take a strip of sandpaper and wrap it around your finger and run that sandpaper covered finger around the inside of the bowl -to smooth out the cake. Your hands will be filthy from the powdered carbon, so do it...

Salutations and Greetings from Stuart Florida

Greetings and salutations! I live in NYC but I frequently stay with friends who live in Palm City. When I'm down there, I have bought some pipe tobaccos @ "Black Dog Cigar Bar" on Federal Hw'y in Stuart, (I think they offer renamed Lane Ltd. bulk). I also buy some cigar-leaf from a...

County in NY Seeks Smoking Ban in Private Homes

I live in New York. It's the biggest *&%$-hole on the east coast! I'll leave it at that. Any further comments will get me banned from this forum.

    $1000+ Pipes

I enjoyed reading thru all the comments and opinions. I can't really add anything, so I won't. However.....personally....my "high end" pipes will never go above $250.00-$300.00 maximum...and even then, I better really love and must have that particular pipe. I could care less who carved the...

Pipnet Reamer Broke on First Use

The best "reamer" that I ever used to control cake -was a piece of sandpaper wrapped around the proper size wooden dowel. Saw a vertical slit on one end of a dowel and roughly round off that end with a file to capture a strip of sandpaper. Never got a chip, never got an unwanted gouge...and...

Condolences On Olivia De Havilland, 104

R.I.P. to this grand dame of the screen. Ditto: to Regis Philbin, a great entertainer from the early days of TV, to present day. Both, class acts.

    Acrylic Spigot Meerschaum

Nice pipe! Hope both woods expand and contract at the same rate. That's literally... a "stack" pipe. :)))

Others Experiencing Long Delivery Times From Europe?

UPDATE: Spanu's Pipe was delivered on Thursday, 16-July, 2020. Love the pipe!....no bad surprises, and, no regrets. Smoked it as soon as it arrived. Nice. Olive wood vs Briar: no difference. But, Olive wood is a little heavier than briar. I'm not a clencher, so, the few grams of extra...

Others Experiencing Long Delivery Times From Europe?

Just about two weeks ago, I ordered a Tomasso Spanu Olive wood pipe. I bought the pipe on an impulse, and never once thought about the Wuhan-Flu screwing up delivery. The pipe is coming from Italy. I'm in the USA. I think I might have a long wait, ahead. If I have any at all, "Patience" in...

    Hardwoods

Great! Think out of the box. All you could do, is fail. Keep trying. Pine might taste like turpentine when smoked due to the sappy resin content. Many have made pipes from alternative woods like: Beech, Cherry, Walnut, Osage orange, Lemon wood, Pear, Olive wood, Bocote, Cocobolo, Ebony...

    Olive Wood Billiard

Thanks for the interesting information, and encouragement. My biggest fear about Olive wood....checking or cracking...but maybe I'm just worrying about nothing. The grain on my Olive wood pipe looks like a piece of marble cake...and I hope the grain stays that way. Anyway, my pipe is in...

    Latakia Paradox?

Just a different suggestion...try smoking blends with very little added Latakia. John Patton has a few over at 4Noggins. "Dark and Stormy" is a wonderful mixture that has some Latakia but not to the point where it's overpowering. Wilke's "High Hat" is great, and for aromatic, cross over...

    Olive Wood Billiard

Just ordered, and now waiting for a never-smoked Tommaso Spanu Olive wood pipe. Bought it off eBay, last week. Pipe has been shipped. Can't stand the waiting game! ETA, for delivery: mid-July. ETA for the end of my patience: two days ago. Never owned or smoked any Olive wood pipes. Do I...
