    Pipe Identification Please??

Glad someone caught it. I was going to say it looks a bit like my favourite pipe maker Neerup, and his pipes are often fashioned similar to “neo-classical” (whatever that means) Italian pipes, so I was going to guess Italian, or maybe Danish. Turns out it is Italian-American like sly...

    Pipe Tobacco

Yeah the Amphora original is a tobacco forward blend, not a lot of flavour, I found that too. You can either go more aromatic like a Peterson connoisseurs choice or Captain Black white, or more English like nightcap, or a mixture called English aromatic. My guess is you’re after aromatic...

    My New Lighter

Funny, I just looked at the bottom of mine, and I’ll be damned it looks like it is refillable. A small hole with a metal ring inside, for a one Canadian dollar store disposable lighter, 75 cents US. Lol. The ones I have are stamped with Major as the brand.

    My New Lighter

I’ve been using those too…. i get a knock off one at the dollar store, never seen an actual bic version, but they are awesome. I originally bought one for my gas stove, but the transition was pretty obvious for a pipe smoker …. I’d like to maybe get a nice chrome high end lighter one day, but I...

    Breaking in a New Pipe

Newer pipes have a bowl coating, I believe it is usually a wood ash paste. But even with older pipes I often just smoked until I discovered oil. A thin coating of olive oil (likely any oil, even butter) works really well. Just coat it and wipe off the access with paper towel. I learned this...

What's Your Favorite Pipe for Backpacking or Camping?

I haven’t camped since taking up pipe smoking, but absolutely cobs would be the choice, I personally wouldn’t risk a nice pipe I cared about in the Bush, at least at this point in my collection, maybe one day when I had more nice ones…. Also antique pipes that are old and I don’t care about I...

    Smoking and Altitude?

I was also thinking the nic hit might be increased up there, quicker head rush with less oxygen to the brain already…

    Chipped Chamber Wall

Yes a carbon layer will certainly fix that. I tend to get tiny cracks in some of my pipes inner bowls and it is because I smoke a hot pipe and it shatters the briar. It doesn’t bother me, the carbon layer fixes it…

    Do You Smoke Clay Pipes?

I wood fired 7 I made a few years ago, and 4 shattered in the heat, so I got three, gave 2 away and smoked the one once, it wasn’t for me, but cool to smoke your own clay pipe. I also bought a 10$ Shakespeare replica clay, but it is currently a decoration in my home, so no I don‘t smoke clay...

For Your Entertainment: a Real Etsy Listing

That tool above is probably a cheap Chinese knock off one too…. Actually I hate to say it but they’re worth more than 2 bucks, 20 is a stretch though.

Who Stirs His Tobacco Towards the End?

Nope, never even crossed my mind…. I just smoke and tamp until the bottom stuff is too stubborn to light easily, and then I’m out. Having said this in theory it sounds like a good idea, to loosen the backy with air. Worth a try!

An Update On Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic

I bought a pouch after all the cult crowing about it, SWR-A, SWR this, SWR that, meh it was Ok…. Lovely smell, a boozy liquorice chocolate truffle thing, with an ultra light burley underneath. It’s currently in my cellar after one bowl. If I had nothing left to smoke I’d be more than happy...

    Greetings from BBQ City

Greetings from Toronto... I’m definitely a scotch fan, and peats top my list... I like Laphroaig to rule them all, liquid coal tar/dirt, but I‘ll drink anything; unpeated, blends, bourbon, Irish, probably in that order. Lat blends naturally top my list too, but again I like most styles of...

Oppose Federal Tax Increase on Premium Cigars & Pipe Tobacco

I‘m a Canuck and just inquired about a pouch of Amphora at my local B/M last week, and it was 35$ plus 5$ sales tax for a pouch, lol. I’d like to support them but sorry. Although I don’t smoke that much so if the price goes up there it won’t hurt me as much as some. Anyhow my cellar is...

Using Two Fingers Instead Of Tamping

I admit the title of this tread had me doing a double take, hmmm, i guess I’m not the only one... I saw one of the characters in LOTR doing it, the actual smoking technique I mean:), and I’ve used it for years... I certainly works

    Alcohol Treatment

For less extreme cases, you can just dip a pipe cleaner in rubbing alcohol then clean the inside stem and shank, than right after run more dry cleaners to remove the excess alcohol and grudge will come out too... then dip paper towel in rubbing alcohol to clean inside the bowl, then a dry one...

    Acrylic Stem Slippery.

My newest and favourite pipe simply won’t clench on the right based on my teeth and pipe shape, it is acrylic but I don’t think that’s the reason. Other pipes are fine on the right. Luckily I’m a left clencher anyhow... I guess you just have a mis-fit like mine.

    Tobbacer Gewdness

It doesn’t hurt to try it RYO, at the end of the day it’s what u like. I started breaking up cigars putting them in a homemade pipe till I bought my first backy pouch... But as mentioned above there is a whole world of natural pipe tobacco.

    Tobbacer Gewdness

Lol, I’d imagine there are other forums for “yum yum”? smokingpipes.com has all you need and they deliver. Amphora is a good price and you can get all types with them.

    Tobbacer Gewdness

I agree with KG in full, no need for the spirit... American Spirit is a very esteemed natural cigarette tobacco, but pipe tobacco is made for pipes... Like KG said there are worlds of natural tobacco non-aro, that many smoke. English (Smoky), Virginia (sweet), Burley (nutty), just make sure...
